30 Days to Changing Your Game GAME ON!! [Day 1 - 30]

Can you believe it?! Day #1 of 30 Days to Changing Your Game is FINALLY here!! YAY!!

Que theme music: Hey! Ho! Let’s Go! http://tinysong.com/8MY3

Today we are going to do some preparation to make the most of this experience. Remember, I’ve read all the posts that are coming your way so I know what is in store for us. :-)

For the next 30 days we will be creating new habits and new ways of thinking. At first, it may feel unfamiliar and awkward – and that’s ok. Change can feel like that. Other times it may feel frightening and disorienting – and that’s okay. Change can feel like that. And still other times it may feel  liberating and freeing – and that’s ok. Change can feel like that, too.

“Fortune favors the prepared mind.” ~Louis Pasteur

starter 1024x768 30 Days to Changing Your Game GAME ON!! [Day 1 30]

These seven keys below will anchor us in the coming days (and even when this series is over) and will truly make all the difference. So, here we go.

1) Commit. Show up here every day for the next 30 days. If you are serious about changing your game, you’ve got to step up. I know you are busy. So am I. But I’ve learned that my game isn’t going to get changed all by itself. I’ve got to be willing to do whatever it takes. So today, decide.

2) Get a notebook or a legal pad that is dedicated to this 30 day series. You may even want to get a three -ring binder and some loose-leaf paper so you can print out and save each blog post. Every day you will be asked to take a small action toward changing your game. You’ll need some space to write down your thoughts and your responses. This may be the very excuse you need to finally buy a Moleskin. :-)

3) Ask questions. Each blog post author is available on the day of their post to respond to comments and answer questions. Take advantage of having access to this extraordinary group of men and women. And remember, the only stupid question is the one that remains unasked.

4) Connect with each other. Many of you recruited a partner for 30 Days -which is AWESOME!! And if you haven’t, it’s not too late to do that, but you will be fine if you haven’t. The culture here at Escaping Mediocrity is one of a tribe. We learn from and lean on each other.

To that end, connect with those you may not know. Respond to an interesting comment. Ask the commentor a question.  Together we are powerful. (And here is one of my few ground rules: this is a supportive environment. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. If you get personal or overly snarky, I will call you out and ban you. End of story.)

5) Remember that some posts will resonate more strongly with you than others. Many times I’ve found that the thing that I was certain had no value to me was the very thing that turned me around. So play through each day. You never know where it may lead you.

6) Stay the course. Somewhere about mid-way through this thing, people will start dropping off. It’s just what happens. Decide now that you won’t be one of those people. Game-changers stay in the game.

7) Go easy on yourself. Yes I know I said decide, commit, step up. And I still mean that. I also know that change can be exhausting and doesn’t come as easily as we would like sometimes. You can’t force it; you can only allow it. And take really good care of your self in the process. :-)

So now go get yourself all warmed up because tomorrow Sherman Hu is going to rock. your. world.

GAME ON!

P.S. If you aren’t already signed up and don’t want to miss out on  30 Days to Changing Your Game, please sign up here.

Ok I am starting the game a little late but plan to play catch up!
  • CatherineVentura
What a great idea! Can't wait to get started (though I have some catching up to do!)
  • Sounds very interesting and challenging. I'm up for it. Let the games begin!
  • mikedux
Hmm.. I think one of the things I need to work on is information glut!
Too many e-mails to process before I found this gem.

Looking forward to following a process outlined by someone else instead of trying to reinvent the wheel every time.
  • I realize it's a day late, but I just wanted to say I am excited to be here! And it seems I picked a fortuitous time... this morning, I lost my job. I was considering a move in the future, but this has jump started that search in a very painful way. I'm hoping that this will prove to be the exact nudge I needed to succeed. Thanks again!
  • lisinha_a
    Hi Everyone!
I'm a day late, but quickly getting up to speed.
I'm so excited to be part of this. I've been looking for something that is going to help move me into the next phase of my life and I think this just may be the thing. It will be great getting to know you as we take this journey together.

I signed up for this because I feel that I'm at a crossroads in my life. I keep telling people that I know what I want to do with my life. I want to inspire and motivate others to be the best they can be, however, I'm not sure how to go about doing that. Maybe it's because I need to feel motivated and inspired myself… I know this next 29 days will help take some of those internal road blocks away and start to pave the road to get to where I want to be.

Sarah, thank you for bringing this program to us.
  • Amy
I read this yesterday but FORGOT to post. I'm a dummy.

And then I thought, well, I could skip this one, and write on the next one instead... but no, I'm going to commit (yes, commit) to doing it anyway, even if I'm late. So...

Hi folks! I'm late. Some people call me Amy though.

This January, I quit working for clients and am focusing 100% on my own products. Those products have been chugging along for a while now, but I never gave them the love they needed to really go gangbusters. But now I'm going to. I don't have anything else to do! (And yes, I'm "scared shitless" along with the rest of you fine ladies & gents!)

The product in question is a time tracking service designed for freelancers & small teams: http://letsfreckle.com

    ... phew.
  • Hmmm...

Posted a comment & then tried to post a response to Teresa as well and they both seem to be gone.

I did make it in yesterday, with what seemed like a conspiracy yesterday to keep me away from emails. ;) I am excited about this whole thing & can't wait to jump in. Scared to type more than that until I see it doesn't disappear on me. :)
  • Couldn't post from the BB yesterday, but was stoked to read this post. For me, I've finally learned to identify the feeling of flux when I'm transitioning. It's sobering and exhilarating to confront the realization that you are the captain of your own fate. Thanks for this opportunity to connect with other brave souls who are making the journey as well. Best, M.
  • I know I am late to today's party, but I am ready to go. This year is a moment of truth year for me professionally and personally. I have done a lot of thinking, reading and discussing regarding change. Now it's time for some doing. The timing is so perfect as i was in New Orleans over the holidays with my best friend and we were discussing the concept of moment of truth and what happens when one is faced with one or more of them. I stated at that time that I was feeling like many moments of truth were going to be presented to me in 2010. A few days later, I saw your 30 Days to Changing Your Game post on Twitter and signed up immediately. The problem is that I have been comfortable enough in mediocrity for so long, but comfortable and mediocrity just don't cut it anymore. I want more. I want more love, I want more freedom, I want more life. I want to take those positive aspects of my life and build upon them and escape those mundane and not-so-positive aspects. I look forward to what is in store the next 30 days.

Thank you Sarah for putting this together and inviting me to participate.

    Kevin.

Thank you for putting this together and for inviting me to participate.
  • Recognizing The Crossroads is the most important step. So many people live in oblivion. The simple awareness of something better gives us an opportunity to elevate our game. Looking forward to seeing more of your posts, Kevin!
  • Thank you Molly. This is going to be fun.
  • Thanks for your time and energy in getting this project going. I look forward to the assignments, connecting with all your followers and of course escaping mediocricy.
  • Nazima Ali
First, thank you so much for doing this and giving all of us an opportunity to step up our game for this new year/decade.
Second, I started making some big changes in my life late last year and this really spoke to me. I felt like this is another step forward for me to have a fabulous year and I can't wait for all the incredible posts I know will be here for us to read, absorb and make changes for the better.
Last, I'm in the very scary but exciting process of starting my business and I can use all the help I can get. I feel like these next 30 days will set me up on how I do business as well as how I do things on a personal level. Bring it on!!!
  • Hi Everyone...late to the party, but HERE! The BEP's song keeps running through my head ..."Let's get it started in here"..LOL...Super excited to connect with lots of amazing people here...thank you Sarah; I'm sure this is going to be a blast!

Jennifer..it sounds like you are going to have a banner year!! I too can relate to the scared shitless part (as anyone else can if they are honest with themselves):-) I'm also a coach and like you am moving away from the 1:1 coaching model...and "playing bigger"...(to be honest I don't really like that phrase, but nothing else comes to mind at the moment)...

I went through a pretty rough year with some health issues and it was easy to "hide" behind those things in order to keep staying in my comfort zone. I'm determined to live outside my comfort zone each and every day in some way..nutz, maybe...but I'm finding it's actually way more fun than I thought it would be!

Looking forward to getting to know you all, learning and contributing!
  • sarahrobinson
And the playlist just keeps growing. Guess I'm gonna have to get on that! So glad you are here Danielle. Stretching your comfort zone is great practice for the day you may have to stretch it a LOT. And it IS fun. Good for you!
  • Hey Danielle, Great to meet you! I completely feel the same way with the "playing bigger" concept yet I haven't figured out a better way to say what I want to do. We've got lots in common - I think it's easy to "hide" behind lots of things in our life (health issues, kids, other commitments, etc.). Really looking forward to staying connected with this group. Amazing people here!
  • Late in the day, but I'm HERE! Part of my commitment to myself is caring for my health - something I've neglected for a couple of years now. To that end, my usual midnight bedtime has to be adjusted so that I can show up in the mornings for my family, my business and my life. Time to put the grump-osauraus-rex out of her misery and pay attention to what's really needed. And with that, I bid y'all a sweet goodnight. Thanks Sarah.
  • sarahrobinson
Without proper self-care we are no good to anyone, least of all ourselves. And, sometimes, we even become a detriment to everyone around us and ourselves. Good for you for recognizing what you need to do and DOING IT! We'll be here.
  • lorib100
I'm here and ready! Really look forward to showing up moving ahead.
  • sarahrobinson
    Glad you are here Lori!
  • alexisneely
Sarah, just popping in quickly before I get my kids to bed to say CONGRATULATIONS girl. You've got a fantabulous community going here and I am so super proud of you for walking your talk. You are doing it!
  • sarahrobinson
Thanks so much for stopping by Alexis!! I so appreciate your encouragement. :-)
  • Mikhaela Craig
I sighed a sigh of relief when I read #7. I have two young children at home and still working part time (27 hrs/week) trying to make ends meet while building my design business from home. I'm getting up in the wee hours of the morning to design/tweet/post while the kids are still sleeping...'cause once they wake up, there's no time for work. Plus, I want to build my home business so I CAN be there for them when they ARE awake - so why take that time away from them just to get there? With that said, some days I feel I make progress on my business, and some days I feel my kids take everything I have. I'm learning to take a day at a time, and accept that I may not get everything done that I felt I needed to...but it WILL get done...WHEN it needs to. I'm looking forward to making small but mighty steps that will make a BIG difference in my thinking and my work. Yeah for "30 Days to Changing Your Game!"
  • sarahrobinson
It's looking like #7 is going to win the popularity contest! We ALL need permission to go easy on ourselves sometimes. Congrats to you for doing what it takes to make the life you want AND to stick to what is most important - even when it is hard. Mt. Everest is climbed one step at a time. You can do this..
  • Like so many of you, this community/journey/commitment is very timely for me as well. I've decided to stop my fruitless search for a job since there are no openings in my profession here and to strike out on my own. I'm still not positive I'm going in the right direction or directions, but I know that doing my own thing is really right. I figure that I can start in one direction and will find my way to the ideal work for me. It's scary but in some ways it's not.

I've been working with a coach a few times a month but I really like the idea of being part of a community that's going through all this together. I hope I can keep up. Strike that, I will keep up!

Please add me to any Twitter lists -- I'm @DeirdreReid. I just followed Scott's.
  • sarahrobinson
A strong community will be an excellent compliment to the work you are doing with your coach. We all need a safe place. :-) And congrats on your decision - I know it was a big one!
  • Wow, this is amazing, the outpouring of commitment and excitement. I'm excited myself to be part of such a community. As a very new blogger, I'm just figuring out how the connection thing works, and that was my favorite part of your post. So what is this about a partner - what's the deal, how does it work, what's the advantage? Do you have to know someone to get or be a partner? I'm interested. So I'm looking forward to gaining new insights into personal growth and blogging. Thank you!!
  • sarahrobinson
Hey Linda! If you signed up to get the daily emails, I sent out some suggestions for making the most of this series. One of them was to invite someone to join you for the 30 Days as a partner. You can still do that or find one here. As you can see - there are LOTS of active people here. :-) And welcome to the world of blogging!!
  • I need to stop being a perfectionist (file under #7). This is my 6th attempt writing a comment that I don't think is stupid. One reason why I'm here. Game On.

Sarah is my inspiration. I could not pass up this opportunity to stop hiding, get a clue, find that platform, start doing what I really WANT to be doing and share the love. No more making lemonade from life's lemons. That stiff upper lip crap needs to go, doesn't it? No more sticking my Square Peg Self into the Round Hole. Game On. Though I must Keep my Eye on the Ball... even when my house requires donning a HazMat suit to clean it.

This is the year I take responsibility, stop being a victim, trust myself and grab life by the balls. Oh, and lose 50 pounds while I'm at it. I am participating in seminars to help move my business ahead. I'm joining this challenge with like minded people like you to share in experiences that will motivate me to move ahead. I'm changing my biz from freelance graphic design to a consulting/coaching model based on my passion for helping clients create comprehensive and meaningful visual branding, communications and promotional strategies ... a mix between an image consultant, intuitive and a stage mother. Needs a little clarity but I'm working on that. Game On. Must Keep my Eye on the Ball... even when kids misbehave and get on my last nerve.

2010 is already presenting major changes: my husband just accepted a new job in NY, and will move in 5 weeks. I will stay here in NC with the kids indefinitely. I am slated to have 2 surgeries -- one to move my lower jaw and tongue forward followed by some throat work -- so getting the house ready to sell depends on when it all transpires. We are grateful for the opportunity. We cannot control the timing. We will survive. However, it's essential that I don't allow these changes to distract me so I drop the ball or quit the game. Which is why I'm here. And I know y'all will hold me to it. Let the Game begin! (PS: I edited this. Just being honest.)
  • sarahrobinson
I'm thinking we have enough recovering perfectionists here to start our own chapter. :-) And your words are very kind. I get my inspiration from people like you - who eagerly show up every day ready to kick mediocrity in the ass. You've got a lot on your plate missy, so reach out for help and support when you need it, okay?!
  • Here's to showing up and staying here all the way to do day 30! I've always been an introverted, behind the scenes kind of gal. Even on Twitter, the majority of my tweets are re-tweets and sharing other people's articles and blog posts. Writing this comment is a big step for me as I don't really put myself out there but I've been pushing myself lately to get out there a little more, taking people up on opportunities I would normally have let go by and although it can be terrifying, I'm going to make myself do more. Just what exactly, I'm not sure yet but I can't wait! Thanks for putting this together Sarah and for lighting the way for the rest of us.
  • sarahrobinson
Marta - congrats on taking the big (and kind of scary) step into the sunlight. :-) You'll find lots of people here to encourage you to do more of it!
  • Sarah, thank you for this. It's going to be a GREAT 30 days that will make for an even better 30 weeks, 30 months, 30 years - who knows!?!? What we do now affects us forever, and committing to making a change in our lives over 30 days could influence us for a long time. This is perfect timing for me. I feel like the last 3-4 years for me have been a struggle. But 2010 is my year and my decade and I can't wait.

In today's post, I'd have to say that #1 resonated the most for me. Just a few years ago I was the Commitment King. I did stuff I loved and I did it 110% - just the way I like doing it. Then college happened, then work happened, and here I am.

But now, HERE I AM. Committed and ready, excited and scared out of my mind that I'm going to realize my biggest fear and have to accept it - I've been half-assing my way through the last 6 years. BUT THAT'S OK! Because there's no time like the present to start and no time like now to change.

As chance would have it, I just started reading "The Four Hour Workweek", "Stones Into Schools", and I received an advanced copy of Seth Godin's "Linchpin" today. All these books are driving me to look at myself and screaming at me, "Go, do something, be someone, change the world!"

But, I've read books like these before. It's one thing to watch tape all day and all night. It's another thing to have Nick Saban and his staff telling you day in and day out that you're the best, you can do it, just commit, work as a team, and stay the course.

So, Nick, I'm here, I'm ready, and I can't wait!

    Roll Tide!
  • sarahrobinson
Do you think we could add Yay Alabama to the playlist?! And yes - in the end, you have to actually show up and do it. Even if you have two broken ribs and your Heisman trophy running back can't shake a leg cramp.. You still show up and you play your heart out. Because that's the stuff champions are made of. :-)
  • I am so glad you are hosting and organizing the next 30 days of guest bloggers and community development, Sarah. I'm really excited to take part in this -- I have my notebook ready. It looks like there is already a great community started here. I look forward to getting to know everyone over the next 30 days. I hope we can challenge each other and hold each other accountable.
  • sarahrobinson
Byt the looks of things, this community is going to do ALL KINDS of things for each other over the next 30 days - so thrilling! Glad you will be a part of it.
  • Dang Sarah! I nearly messed up #1 (commit) because I was busy having to do #7 (take care of myself). Hurt my back today doing heavy lifting (no really, that solid wood monster of a desk was HEAVY!). But then I remembered this started today, & got all kinds of giddy. So I'm here, & I'm ready & it's funny because I may very well get the hang of this after all, (already have legal pad + binder ready to go). So if being sick (since NY's day), being gone all day & a back injury don't keep me away, I think I'll be able to get here the other days as well. ;) Thanks for the tips & ready to see what the rest of this has in store for us! (C'mon, little hints, pretty please?)
  • sarahrobinson
Oh Sunshine - what a hoot you are!! You take CARE of yourself!! And sorry, no hints. I have to keep this crowd in line just a little and knowing something you don't may be my only leverage. :-)
  • Okay Sarah! I'm here! And just being here is changing my game. I've never been part of a discussion group... I've hardly ever blogged and I had to learn how to set up an account so my picture and name could show up. I'm on a HUGE learning (or RE-learning) curve in my life and being a part of this 30-day Challenge is, I'm already clear, going to accelerate that even more. In many ways, I'm starting my business (and large parts of my life) all over again... this time around getting to learn and practice what I didn't know but pretended I did. So - I'm committed.

But what really resonated with and challenged me from your post today (also scares me to the point of mild nausea) was #4, #6, and #7. The CONNECT piece will be big for me... I so want to "look good" and do things "right" that I try to do things on my own and in "hiding"... and that's just one of the things that have prevented me from Escaping Mediocrity and Accessing Abundance (and, yes, that's the name of my company and it's what I teach.) So - just putting myself out here is HUGE for me. STAYING THE COURSE... especially given I already have a HUGE amount on my plate this month... and given that may not always be easy for me and I may not always look good... well, that too, would be breaking of my pattern. And that's why #7 resonated so much for me ... that in the midst of all this, I need to love and care for and have compassion for myself )and everyone else engaged in this process). It reminds me of an affirmation I've been writing every day now for about 4-5 months. "I love and accept myself completely and unconditionally"... even when I'm uncomfortable and stretching myself (and feeling nauseous)!
  • SpiritusShelagh
Hi Teresa! Thanks for inviting me to take part in this - you are right, it is perfect timing for me!
I'm told that Jupiter is in Pisces from next Monday and I am to get ready for an exhilarating ride - so what a great place to prepare!
And I am preparing to take my business forward with a quantum leap this quarter, so what a terrific place to get support as I cope with all the "business" involved!
  • Hey Shelagh! YAY that you're going to play this game! So glad I acted on that inner prompting of sharing this with you!
  • sarahrobinson
YAY Teresa! CONGRATS on putting it out there. This is gonna be fun and mostly painless - I promise. :-)
  • So glad to be on this journey with you...2009 was eye (and heart) opening, 2010 promises to be profound. Bring. It. On!
  • Susan
Wanting to go somewhere with great ideas, but haven't taken the launch -looking forward to the journey and the knowledge to achieve what I never thought I'd do - go after my dream!
  • sarahrobinson
Being here is the first step toward making that dream a reality. Not so much because of what you will learn, but because you are committing to it. Dreams are big fans of commitment. :-)
  • Yippee - so glad to see you here, Kerri!! I, too, am 'nervous but mostly excited'...and thrilled to think about what's in store. Sarah- Like you said, for me just showing up tends to help act as a catalyst to get me moving on a path that may not be clear from the outset. That's where I am right now, no clear vision on where I'm meant to go, but secure in the knowledge that by diving into your program I'll discover my next step when I need to!
  • sarahrobinson
Like peeling away the layers of an onion. :-) It's gonna be AWESOME!
  • triciadycka
Hello everyone. So ready to get in the game with everyone. Conecting with new people and having a great 2010. Woohoo great idea
  • sarahrobinson
    Glad you are here Tricia!
  • *starts playing the Rocky theme*

    Let's do this!
  • sarahrobinson
And yet another song for our playlist......:-)
  • Hi, Sarah! I'm excited about starting this process. Got my notebook and my partner and I'm ready to go!!
  • Sarah. This looks like a fun and exciting experiment. I'm glad to be a part of it. Looking forward to the rest of it.
  • sarahrobinson
It is an experiment indeed Lisa! Glad you are up for it!
  • marvelousmartha
“Fortune favors the prepared mind.” ~Louis Pasteur <-- creat quote! I'm looking forward to being prepared!

Thanks Sarah for working so hard for your tribe, and for putting this all together! I have a small homebased business and have done some consulting work, but I am really not sure of my path. I've been looking for some guidence outside of my normal circle of influence, and I was so excited when I saw you tweeting about this.

I'm interested in a power partner - anyone out there looking for one also? I've had problems in the past staying the course for a whole 30 days, and I do better with a friend.
  • sarahrobinson
So glad to see you Martha!! Some people got a friend to joing the 30 days with them and be their partner. You may give that some thought if you don't find one here. We ALL do better with a friend. :-)
  • pamelam
For my friends and fellow "changers" Sheryl Crow - A Change Would Do You Good: http://blip.fm/~j184l
  • sarahrobinson
W00t! One more reason to start a playlist. :-)
  • jreinitz
I also look forward to embarking on this journey with everyone. I have decided to take action rather than simply react. I feel as if I have been treading water for years for a variety of reasons, most of all being an abject lack of confidence in my abilities which I try to rationalize through faulty explanations why I am not entitled to success. I have decided that the time is now and I look forward to meeting and getting to know all of you.
Something to ponder, a quote a friend of mine recently shared, "Priority determines capacity."
  • sarahrobinson
Glad you've made your declaration and stepped up! You will be amazed by what transpires because of that one simple act. Glad you are here. :-)
  • jen.
I am with you on needing to develop confidence, and love your friend's quote, too. Looking forward to learning with and from you!
  • First, THANKS for permission to buy a moleskin. I love notebooks, especially those worth saving, and have enjoyed keeping my notes and reviewing them since I was a somewhat-geeky college student 20 years ago. Now, I'm a new business owner -- having started a PR firm this past summer after serving as a corporate communicator for a loooonnnnng time. Referring to your Step 4 above, I'd welcome the opportunity to partner with someone out there, and am wondering if anyone else reading this is focused on either PR or communications in an industry OTHER THAN healthcare (which is where my niche is - at least for now)? If so and if your are willing to have a partner in this process, please let me know. As a final point, I have to say the Ramones got me READY TO GO - but that it was a bit challenging to read and sing at the same time. Cheers!
  • sarahrobinson
Haha! Maybe I should have said "Listen first THEN read!" And congrats on your new biz adventure. And I think there are several non-healthcare pr folks here that you can connect with. :-)
  • michaelleiter
    Sarah
You've brought together a creative and talented community. Great to be part of it. Hope to get to know folks. And no travels for the next 30 days so ready to join the adventure.
    All the best,
    Michael
  • sarahrobinson
Hey Michael - I am VERY blessed with a great community. Glad you're along for the adventure!
  • jen.
I'm looking forward to this 30-day adventure with all of you! And I agree with Shelley, I am glad today was a prep day, so I don't start out beating myself up for already being behind. I need to lay the very basic groundwork for what(ever it is that) I will do next, and this looks to be a great supportive tribe to help me figure that out. Thank you for the opportunity, Sarah!
  • sarahrobinson
I start every week with a prep day. Seemed fitting to start THIS with a prep day too. Seems to be working for everyone which is awesome!
  • I'm so excited to see where this leads. I'm choosing to focus on #7 first since I can be so hard on myself. LOVE the thought of escaping mediocrity and really rocking in 2010. Last year was tough in so many ways and I'm ready to begin shaping this year in a whole different direction. This couldn't have come at a better time, so thanks for stepping out and leading us in this way.
  • sarahrobinson
Yep - I included #7 especially for us recovering perfectionists. :-) It's gonna be GREAT! Glad you are here!
  • Hey Erin, Great to see you on here too!
  • I'm an avid golfer. It's a spiritual thing. Whenever a pro golfer is interviewed after a tournament invariably the question comes around to "what about that bad shot you hit on..." More often than not the reply is, "I just wasn't committed to the shot." When you've committed to a shot you've gathered all of the information, decided upon a course of action, and put aside all doubts and fears. The next and most important step is to fully execute the shot. You're not thinking about where the ball is going, your only concern at this point is to hit the best shot you can.

So I have some thoughts as to where I would like to be at the end of this program. My commitment though is to give it my best shot each day. I've set up my diary and will begin connecting with the other players. Like you said, "game on!"
  • sarahrobinson
Yay Bill - so glad to see you here. Great golf analogy. And I can't think of anything really that does not begin and end with commitment - if you want it to be successful. Game on. :-)
  • Look at this Community - On Fire!!!

    COMMIT...on a foundation of self-kindness. Excellent advice.
    Can't wait to play!

    Mollie
  • Pleasantly surprised with finding you!! Didn't know what I was getting into and still don't but like surprises and challenges.
I have two emerging practices and it sounds wonderful to get support learning from people who do things differently.
Look forward to exploring and experimenting!!
    Majrory
  • sarahrobinson
It's all about adventure Marjory and this one is going to be great!! Glad you found us. :-)
  • janica
I'm very excited to join this tribe! I appreciate the tools you are putting in place to help us "stay the course". The daily emails will help as reminders and the list of guest bloggers is amazing. My goal for this year is to surround myself with other people who want to play a bigger game but to do it in a way that feeds their soul and those around them. Thank you for sharing yourself and your friends and mentors Sarah!
  • sarahrobinson
Janica!!! At least you know what I've been doing when I supposed to be tending to my books! SO glad you are here. :-)
  • sarahyewtree
I'm already enjoying the sense of anticipation, the grounded atmosphere...and the combination of potential and practicality...
Most of all I'm enjoying the unanimous respose to creating connections...there's nothing better than feeling part of supportive community...

Best wishes to all starting the journey
  • sarahrobinson
Hey Sarah - so glad to see you here! Clearly the tribe is of one mind - which is awesome. :-)
  • How do you not love a place with Rock Stars, Hooligans, Birthday Girls, List Makers, and the forceful energy of Intended Game Changing? Not to mention, I LOVE the Ramones - and glad you didn't choose 'Lobotomy' as our theme song. I look forward to witnessing our respective transformations over the next 30 days ...
  • sarahrobinson
But I almost chose "Do Ya Wanna Dance?"!
  • Bobbi Spargo
Game on! Determined to stay in the game. Thanks for what you are doing here.
  • sarahrobinson
And thanks for being here Bobbi!
  • Commit, connect and stay the course. Those are the three here that really resonate with me as I embark on this next 30 days. I have so many ideas floating around in my head, so many directions I can take. I am committing to just taliong action. Taking one step at a time, to make sure I am clear that where I am spending my time is the place that will take me the furthest -- and the place where I should even be spending any time at all. I cannot wait to walk through the next 30 days and see the results on the other end-- and the changed/new habits that will take me steadfastly beyond these 30 days! Thanks Sarah and best of luck to all!!
  • sarahrobinson
Shannon your comment along with a few others starts songs playing in my head. I think I'll make us a playlist! Glad you are here!!!!
  • I'm excited to get started. My company announced a new incentive contest that began Jan 1 and runs thru June 30. I KNOW I can earn this fabulous trip, but it will require me to almost double my biz over the next 6 months. January is off to a great start, but I'm looking forward to changing my thought processes on some issues so I can sustain this for the next 6 months and beyond; cuz honestly, I wasn't living up to my potential before. Not even close. So, this is coming at a great time for me! Looking forward to learning from everyone!
  • sarahrobinson
You can do it Lisa - one step at a time!
  • That's the plan! Consistent and persistent over time wins the game! Can't wait for tomorrow's post!
  • I can't believe it is already Jan 11. I have been looking forward to this probably long before I actually signed up and just didn't know it until now. As others have mentioned, I too am ready for a change, a new me. Year 2009 was a rough one for my family and turning 45 didn't help me much either. It was on my birthday that I realized 2010 needed to be my year to get things on track. When I wrote down the things I wanted to do in preparation for this journey, I could feel that tingling sensation of excitement begin. I already have a notebook but maybe I will treat myself to a Moleskin! Anyway, I am so psyched for this adventure and for the people I will meet! Thank you Sarah.
  • sarahrobinson
I turned 45 last year too! Keep re-visiting that list that made you tingle because it will keep you going when nothing else can!!!
  • lorilatimer
Wow - great start, and great comments. Watch out world... here we come!

Thanks, Sarah, for doing this, and for all of your support. You rock!
  • sarahrobinson
I know right?! I think there are a lot of game changers just waiting to bust out from this series. Can't wait!!
  • nancymyrland
I'm with you wonderful Sarah!! Thanks for doing this.
  • Hey Nancy, I am excited to see that you are part of the tribe too. Let us press on!
  • sarahrobinson
Hey Nancy!!! SO glad you are here!!
  • jayelisson
Sarah, what you do is incredible....and by creating a playground of sorts for others to challenge themselves and grow, you are only taking your game to yet another level! Change doesn't come easy, but its "easy"-er with others with similar intent. I am truly looking forward to challenging some of my own thoughts and ideas on this fabulous journey with you and all these others!! Hello, to you all, by the way!! And like I needed a reason to go out and buy a new fab journal!!
Cheers to you all, looking forward to tomorrow!
  • sarahrobinson
Thank you Jay. This is what I love to do - and I guess that shows just a little, huh?! And I highly recommend that new journal because I am nothing if I am not a moleskin enabler. :-)
  • Oh look at all this excitement. What a great tribe Sarah!
  • sarahrobinson
It's a great tribe because amazing people show up here - amazing people like YOU!
  • Wendy
I am really looking forward to this exercise!
  • sarahrobinson
    Good for you Wendy!
  • Hi Sarah and fellow tribemates,

I love this concept and the support that is already evident. I have been attending webinars lately and was encouraged to think of the 1 most important action step that I needed to accomplish --and then to do it in the next 30 days. I am working on that now with a phone appt scheduled for today. It is helpful to have a laser focus and to not be distracted by multiple to do's, but to get this one major item checked off my list. :-) Hopefully I can report back that I am on my way.
  • sarahrobinson
Nothing beats crystal clear (and singular" focus for getting stuff done. Can't wait for tomorrow's report!
  • juliepuentes
This series could not come at a better time for me. I have so many huge decisions coming up in my life and I am committed to this process to help me become more clear AND help ensure success. I have decided over the past few months that my current job is to take care of me. And sometimes, that is not so easy for others to accept or embrace, which sure can make it hard, especially, when you have a tendency to place others needs above your own out of fear or just wanting peace. Trouble is I have also found that you the more you deny your truth, the tougher life gets. So bravo Sarah for putting this together and I look forward to learning and growing with all of you! I am ready to change the game.
  • sarahrobinson
Wow Julie - thanks for putting your truth out there so early in the game. Well done!!
  • I am so excited about this process, I can hardly contain myself. I started my business two years ago in March, I have spent the last two years laying the foundation. Now I need to start building and growing. To do that, I must soar to new heights personally. I believe this series will help me "take off" and"! fly"
  • sarahrobinson
It's gonna be awesome Victoria - let's Kick It!!
  • I am really looking forward to this!! Should be a fantastic 30 days!! Bring it!

I laughed when you mentioned the Moleskin in #2 as mine is sitting in front of me (an everyday one, not yet for 30 days!). I have always found that I learn the most from others when I take the time to take a step back and really let it sink in. I recommend that everyone follow through with #2. Who knows, in a couple of years, I think we would all benefit from being able to look back and remember what I'm sure is going to be a great experience.
  • sarahrobinson
Thank you Mike! I betting that the connections made here will be some of the most pivital in 2010. :-)
  • Hurrah! Rock and roll, people...
  • Mixx
Hola Michael! good to see you here too - helping people start the work that matters! I bought a new box of crayons for this :-)

Thanks sooooo much Sarah for facilitating, leading and putting all this together - there's so much great energy here already !!

    hasta manana - very excited
    Michelle
  • sarahrobinson
Thanks for stopping by Michael! Your post later in the series is TERRIFIC!
  • I am ready! Commit, Connect and Stay the Course hit home here. 2010 is a new year and a new beginning for me. I want put 2009 behind me and refocus my business and my life. I'm excited. The hardest effort for me will be Stay the Course...I have tried similar things before only to lose my focus and interest in the name of dealing with the most important "fire" of the day. To that end, I would love to connect with many of you that will help all of us stay the course throughout the next 30 days.
  • sarahrobinson
Don't worry Scoot, I have a feeling the tribe here will come looking for you if you drop out. May not be pretty so I wouldn't risk it! ;-) Glad you are here!
  • Scott I couldn't agree more. When 2010 came around I hit the big "flush" button on 2009!!! Staying the course has been one of my challenges as well, so I look forward to helping each other "stay on"! We can do it!!!
  • Michlle - I've created a twitter list to follow those who are participating. Here is the link http://twitter.com/#/list/The_Promo_Guy/game-ch...
  • sarahrobinson
Thanks for building that list Scott! Someone else created a hastag to use on twitter #30days. I love this!
  • Now we have a list and hash tag....we are set. :)
  • I love your whole idea about Escaping Mediocrity. Then you came up with this idea and got others to do this series with you! I think that is awesome and quite a feat! After your first emails in December, I sat there for the longest time trying to come up with answers to the questions - I finally did! Now I am excited to hear all of the different opinions/advice - not only from the guest posters - but also from the tribe! What a great idea this is! I also finally decided to take the time to do your survey - but you had closed it! Sorry! ( I broke my nose on 1/1 and have been away from the computer!)
I've got my notebook ready and am getting excited! Thanks!
  • sarahrobinson
Good for you for staying the course on that Shelly. This series is only going to build on the work you've already done. You go girl! (and P.S. Sorry about your nose. I may do another survey series like that soon.)
  • Can't wait to be both a rock star AND a hooligan! Here for thirty days and beyond, Sarah.

My goal is to learn and to keep learning and doing and be someone you'd feel comfortable inviting to participate next time!!
  • sarahrobinson
Well you are already a hooligan Mark and well on your way to becoming a Rock Star!
  • I can't wait until I'm both. I wonder where it'll fit on my resume?

I'm really going to look for as many elements of what our 15 minutes was about and kick them in the ass until they sit correctly! Can't wait to see what's in store for us all and how much better we're all going to be. The Internet better look out because we're coming from the back to take over the front!
  • jbmusic
Thanks Sarah I'm really looking forward to the next month. This program should really get me going as i work to get my startup off the ground. Now i just have to make sure i take the time to check my email this weekend while I'm in New Orleans!
  • sarahrobinson
New Orleans?! How fun!! We're gonna want to hear all about that. :-)
  • Shelley
I love that this post was dedicated entirely to getting ready, and that I could sign up and forget about it until today! If there had been an action step today, I might have been tempted to put it off. Now I have all day to look forward to tomorrows action step.
  • sarahrobinson
Glad you liked it Shelley. :-) Selfishly I laid the series out in a way that would work for me - and it seems to be working for everyone else too. Love it when that happens. There is NO WAY I could have jumped into the deep water on the first day of a series like this; I need warming up. So that's what I chose for today. Glad it has you in the game!
  • Jennifer, I looked at your website. I am a triathlete too! I've never done an Ironman, and don't think that will be one of my goals. But I've done over 20 races--sprint and olympic and my goal is to do a half-ironman this year. i love racing. I am slow, but I love it.
  • JoyFull_deb
WOWeee.....fabulous comments and awesome energy in this TRIBE....let the game begin!!!
  • StephanieCorum
I've been struggling with my focus doing an average job in a lot of areas. I'd rather do a great job in one area. I'm looking forward to learning through this series and doing just that.
  • sarahrobinson
Yep - we do a disserve to everything when we spread ourselves too thin. This series is really gonna help I think!
  • kristieschwanebeck
First off, I want to thank you for doing this. I will be one of the ones that stays the course and I cannot tell you how appreciative I am to have this support, albeit e-support. There is no physical support around me, so this means the world. I wanted to add my two cents on the fear concept. Fear is one of those nasty beasts, its a trickster and manpulator. He pries on us during our moments of weakness to ensure we freeze and become immobilized. I have found a few things work to combat fear: the first being to accept it as a valid feeling based on what you do not know. The more you try to fight him, the deeper he digs his heels in. I have come out of some horrific cricumstances and for a long time was locked in by fear to a point of immobilization, I know it well. So accept it as valid and honor it as part of your growth experience. Fear is a good thing as it kicks in our fight or flight response which ensures we proceed with caution and really evaluate our positions. Which leads me to my next point, when faced with overwhelming fear, one of the things that I have found to be extremely helpful is to forecast what the worst case scenario could be and develop your Plan B. This enables you to have a sense of control over things which is one of the key ingredients needed to overcome fear's immobilization. Once you have a Plan B for your worst case scenario, then you feel more empowered and in control. These are what I have learned through my experiences, hope someone finds them helpful.
  • sarahrobinson
Great tips on dealing with fear Kristie - thank you! SO glad you are here.
  • Breanne
I'm glad I stumbled onto your blog the other day, Sarah. This is going to be a great series and I can't wait to dive in!
  • sarahrobinson
Well I'm glad you stumbled here too - yay!
  • This is perfect timing for me too. 2009 was all about coming to terms with the fact that my business and career no longer fit. I am a psychotherapist and I (dare I say it), find it boring and unfulfilling and the model of psychotherapy just does not fit my personality or yearning to speak my truth. I didn't start talking about this with others until a few months ago and it's been eye opening. I need to keep talking openly and doing. I have no idea what I am doing next. My business needs a complete reboot. I have a lot to offer but my current model feels soooo inauthentic. 2010 is going to be a great year.
  • sarahrobinson
I am really glad you are here Jackie and glad you are talking about your truth in safe environments. I know of a couple of therapists who have re-built the model of their businesses. I can find their links if you would like. :-)
  • Jackie you are not alone, trust me! Good for you for recognizing yourself and taking the next steps toward your "truth". I commend you and look forward to helping each other! This is going to be a great ride!
  • Ready to roll.
  • sarahrobinson
    YAY!
  • Wow, giving up any part of eating lunch shows a commitment. Look forward to learning and commenting with you.
  • I am doing a cannonball into the escaping mediocrity pool of goodness! 2010 must not be about accepting the status quo or complacency - it must be about incremental action to awesomeness.
  • sarahrobinson
w00t! Glad you've built that swimming pool so we can have parties there!!
  • "awesomeness", that is a perfect way to describe it! Love the cannonball plunge too! All weekend I've been practicing Sarah's comment "give fear the middle finger"!
  • sarahrobinson
You know I can't take credit for that - I MUST give John Haydon credit (even thought I don't want to!)
  • Let's do it.
  • sarahrobinson
Always direct and to the point, aren't you Nate! Thanks for stopping by. :-)
  • Sarah I am ready! Committed to not fall into the category #6 above. Glad to see many others here feel the same way I do, "fear" and follow through have been an issue with me in the past. I have "set the stakes" very high. I look forward to interacting with all of you! Good luck to everyone, this is going to be awesome!
  • sarahrobinson
Good for you Michele! And way to jump in and start connecting with others here - tha's awesome!
  • Diane Easley
Preparing my mind and promising not to quit or wimp out when I get busy. Looking forward to connecting with others as we change our games this month. I am excited and wonder how you knew I plan to use a Moleskine (which I have had around for some time) for this 30 day challenge? :-)
  • sarahrobinson
I think everyone has an empty journal sitting around waiting "for a good reason" to use it! Now you have one. :-)
  • sarahas
Hi Diane.... I'm using an empty journal that I've had around for awhile as well. Never used it on account of having "nothing exciting" to write about, so ready to change that mentality.
  • doforanimals
Bring it on! #1 Commit & #6 Stay the Course - resonate loudly for me. I'm so tired of starting things and not following through. I'm prepared to commit and practice this 30 day challenge. Notebook ready...
  • sarahrobinson
Well I can say this: if you ask the tribe to hold you accountable, be prepared!! Glad you are here!!
  • I'm a little nervous but mostly excited to start this series. I'm devoting part of my lunch hour to reading the posts. Yum!
  • sarahrobinson
Oh yay! Kindof like your own pirvater Lunch N Learn. We promise to be good company!
  • I'm really looking forward to this series. I have a hard time staying the course, especially over 30 days, so the mailing list and RSS feed will be good reminders. ;)
  • sarahrobinson
If you ask, the tribe will come looking for you if you go missing. :-)
  • Me too Chris, staying the course has always been a challenge for me and I think many of us. 2010 is a make it or break it year for me. Excited to be "meeting everyone" and soooo happy this "challenge" has kicked off!
  • LaConsuelo
    Great post! :-)

I'm a big dork from way back, so giving me a structure like buying a new notebook has me feeling all shiny-faced, grinning with hands folded, and ready. Thanks also for setting the tone of safety, contribution, tribal community and acknowledging the foibles of our humanity (we may wanna quit - but don't do it!). Finally, while my Inner Critique Committee didn't like the "only stupid question is the one that remains unasked" - I am grateful for the reminder! GAME ON!
  • sarahrobinson
But did you get your Flintstones lunchpail and your new box of Crayons?! And I know, sometimes I get irritated at things that seem like "old hat" reminders. But I so often forget that stuff that I need all the reminding I can get. This is gonna be GREAT!
  • mirkogosch
    Hey Sarah.

I´ve already been waiting in excitement for your first post to kick off the 30 Days to Changing Your Game. So here we go! I have committed myself to stay on board for the whole distance (:-)). It´ll be a great chance to learn, share and interact with great people from all over the world. Keep this thing rocking, my friend. Can´t wait to get the second´s day post.

    Mirko
  • sarahrobinson
Love your commitment mirko - to the process AND to the tribe. That's the stuff that makes all the difference. YAY!
  • I have to say that the one thing that really rings my bell is #4 Connect with each other. It is only by building a community of like-minded people who want to change and "escape mediocrity" that we can succeed. Trying to do it alone, and without guidance is like trying to plan a trip to a strange and foreign country by yourself. We wouldn't undertake such a journey without looking to others for answers to questions or guidance. Connect, build relationships and you can't lose.
  • Thanks Karl. I have just created a twitter list of folks who are doing the program. This will be a great way to connect and help accountability.
  • JoyFull_deb
    Scott....
I just found your list....Thanks so much!! A little "lagniappe," as we say down in south Louisiana..."a small gift" or a little something extra! Day ONE has rocked!!!
  • Thank you, Scott! Great idea.
  • wendyharrington
    Hi Scott and everyone.

How do we find that list?

    Thanks Wendy
  • Hi Wendy...You need to have a twitter account and then you can follow the this link.
    http://twitter.com/#/list/The_Promo_Guy/game-ch...
  • I couldn't find this? I'm pretty new to Twitter, so I'm probably missing something, but when I paste the link in to a browser it looks like I'm gettingyour regular twitter feed rather than one specifically for the game changing series?
  • lkanda
    Here's the link on Twitter
    @The_Promo_Guy/game-changing
I'm following this now - thanks for doing this Scott!
  • LaConsuelo
Yes - what a great idea - how can we access the list? And thank you!!
  • sarahrobinson
It's all about relationships, Karl! So glad you are here. :-)
  • meganmatthieson
Trying to be more human here. Adding a picture option?
  • sarahrobinson
hmmm - if you login/setup an account you can add a picture. Have you tried that? I LOVE seeing everyone's face!
  • I won't be buying a notebook (handwritten notes do nothing for me except cramp my hand), but I did start a Google docs specifically for this and to take down any notes in that.
  • sarahrobinson
escellent sue anne - whatever will work best for you!
  • Cheryl
    I like Jennifer's comments :-)
    Ready to move forward, Sarah.
  • sarahrobinson
    Then let's rock!
  • jaimiefield
I am really looking forward to learning. Thanks for putting this together!
  • lkanda
Jaime - awesome to see you on board with the challenge too!
  • sarahrobinson
This is the stuff I love to do and it is so much fun to share it!!
  • New year... new me... let's rumble! Can't wait.
  • sarahrobinson
    w00t! Game on Alexis!
  • meganmatthieson
Very excited! I love new beginnings. I'm wondering how many of us there are?
  • sarahrobinson
    Hey Megan!
Well as of this morning there were about 400 signed up specifically to receive emails/blog posts. Every time I've checked since then, the number keeps jumping up quickly, which is VERY exciting!! This is gonna be great. :-)
  • billbryant
Fantastic! Great start to my first day! Game ON! Thank you!
  • sarahrobinson
Hey Bill! Glad you are here!
  • sarahas
Looking forward to the journey and meeting the tribe... I'm 100% commiting myself to be here each and every day!
  • sarahrobinson
Well Sarah, as you can probably tell, this is one heck of a tribe! Welcome aboard. :-)
  • This is awesome & such great timing for me. It's a new year, a new decade, I'm turning 35 in a few days, I'm relaunching my business and I'm scared shitless. I'm totally able to see how my excuse-making is getting in the way of me making progress and showing up how I really want to show up. I'm here today and I will be by day 30 too. Looking forward to connecting with others committed to this challenge!
  • Hey Jen! Love the part about showing up. I tend to hang back for fear of taking up too much space in this world but I've slowly realized that there is more than enough room for all of us to fully show up. And that we really owe to ourselves and the world to do just that. It is scary AND so worth it!
  • Whatkind of business are you relaunching?
  • Hi Cherry, I'm relaunching my coaching biz. Did what (almost) every new coach does and didn't niche, only had 1:1 coaching services, etc. Now focusing on a specific market and creating products and enhancing the types of services I offer. The scared shitless part is about really believing I "know" something and can share it with women who need/want it! Thanks for asking :-)
  • joecheray
That is how I feel a lot of the time especially in light of the fact that I am changing gears this year on not only the blogging part but also my niche direction. Although the previous niche that I was in ties into what I will be doing now, it is still a whole other ball game for me. I feel like I know enough to hold my own fairly well in conversations with others, but not enough to make me stick out as an expert. Of course I always seek out major niches to get in on. They say never to do that if you want to stand out in the crowd, but for me well I never really do what others tell me to do or what others think I should be doing.
  • Hey, Jennifer, I'm in the same place as you. What/who is your niche? I', focusing on 18-25 yo college women. Might we have some synergies?
  • Hey Shannon, I'm focusing on women too but more in the 30-45 yr old range. That said, we still may have some synergies and just not know what they are yet! I'm trying to keep up with all of the posts here ~ crazy busy.
  • Wow, I'm in the same place with my business - but it's a whole different category! Just goes to show that it's not so much the content (ie, the business we're in) as it is about LIFE and LIVING! :) My business is web design, and I had the same problem in that I didn't niche down enough, tried to take on every opportunity, and ended up too scattered and with really low-quality clients and jobs. As I'm revisiting the whole idea for the business, I'm realizing I need to really niche it down and zero in on those clients and jobs that I really WANT to work with. I love it when the "light" comes on and makes things so much clearer and simpler! :)

Great to hear about what everyone else is learning and growing in! I'm loving it! :)
  • Keying in on the "who" has become so important for me - working with my ideal client gives me energy while working with non-ideal clients seems to suck my energy away. Too funny you're in web design - having some weird issues with a designer I'm working with right now for a wp customization. My guess is that there are a plethora of people who need you & what you do and you have the luxury of being able to decide who you want to work with ! It's so great to shift from scarcity thinking (ie. I'll take anybody cause I need to pay the bill) to abundance thinking.
  • alexisneely
Just to give y'all a little inspiration for being willing to really focus in on the WHO you are serving - this was my biggest resistance when I had my law firm. But, as soon as I was willing to focus my law practice on serving families with young children (which all the other lawyers said was a loser market and I would fail if I did it), I built my law firm into a million dollar business. It was scary and it took a massive commitment, but I did it and it paid off. It will pay off for you too in so many ways.
  • My big question is how did you pick your market? Out of all of the possible "niches" you could have chosen what was the thing that guided you towards families with young children? How do I figure out if my market wants what I've got to offer? This is the place I get stuck. I think I have a good idea and then I get all insecure and talk myself out of it. So frustrating and I'm sick of it - which is the reason that I'm here. Sigh....
  • sarahrobinson
Jen - ask yourself these questions: 1) Who do you LOVE working with? 2) Who do you find it easiest to work with? Pick that group. And just so you know, I've recently changed my target market so you don't have to get it "right" the first time. :-)
  • Thanks Sarah ~ I know I'm close. Feel like I'm finding my voice, my footing, my courage. Feels good to be here.
  • This is similar to what I did with my therapy practice. I sort-of niched, only provide 1:1 therapy sessions. One of my biggest blocks is around the believing I "know" something. I always feel like I have nothing original to say. Nowadays, all I seem to be able to say are things critical of therapists and therapy profession (I know my pendulum will swing back to the center soon). What I do "know" is there has to be a better way to connect with people and work with people that isn't centered on "treating" mental illness/problems.
  • Just read your post & was writing back to you! Weird hey, we can be smart, ambitious, motivated, "successful" women and still have these layers of insecurity and self doubt. It drives me crazy. Love that you are looking to switch things up and figure out what's better for you. It's so much easier to just stay the course but SO fulfilling. My gut says that we've both got loads to offer and know a ton - we just need to find our voice. Can't wait to learn from you.
  • I meant to say unfulfilling!
  • I am completely in the same boat, Jennifer! As I read your comment it really resonated with me. This is excellent timing for me as well, as I am looking at ramping up a business I had thought I was going to just let go. I know that I don't want to do it the way I was doing it before, and am feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to map out how I do want to do it. As I read the blog post today it reminded me that I need to take some time and really focus on me and what I want for my life in this next year - and THEN the business will come together the way it should. :) No more excuses, no more procrastinating, and no more distractions - I'm here for the full 30 days as well, because I really think this series is going to change my life! :) I can't wait!!!
  • Kate
I am impressed by the number of comments that you have had on this post _ way to go Sarah. Can you believe that I am a day behind already - it's 12 Jan and I am reading the first post. Was not going to admit that but like tehjess said I have been considering jacking in my own business. I am looking to the next 28 days as an opportunity to change my approach to my business so thanks for this Sarah and I am looking forward to the journey.
  • It's already so great to know that other people feel the same way. Can't wait to see what your business is and how it unfolds for you. You said something so key "I need to take some time and really focus on me" --> it's so easy to put our attention on others, often it's necessary (ie. if you're a parent) but I know for me it's easier than shining the light on myself. EEk! Who knows what I might see :-)
    Thanks for connecting!
  • Thanks, Jennifer! :) I look forward to sharing more - and learning more about you - as this series unfolds. :) My focusing on me doesn't have so much to do with other people as it does making myself unplug from business! I get so focused on making more money (or trying to!), and then get so scattered with trying to do too many things at once, and I never really unplug and do things that I enjoy just for the sake of enjoying them! ;) Time to learn to unplug and take care of me, and just trust that the business and money stuff will fall into place. :) Getting excited about this journey! :)

Excellent Jennifer - looking forward to watching your progress. (And just so you know, we are all scared shitless. Some of us just do a better job of hiding it than others!)

There's something a little exciting about a fresh, clean page. I'm looking forward to it! I forgot about this series beginning today, but there was a little synchronicity at work because I unconsciously took the weekend off from worrying about, well, EVERYTHING, and got started today feeling fresh and renewed, and it couldn't have been better timing!
  • sarahrobinson
Just gotta love synchronicity - it never misses. :-) Glad you are here!
  • ok, woohoo, I am securely strapped in and ready for the ride!! I love collaborative efforts and feel like it takes the support and encouragement of others to break out and discover our highest unfolding- I appreciate that you are here facilitating this!!
  • sarahrobinson
Well, if today's comments are any indication, this is gonna be a GREAT ride!!! YAY!!
  • Yes it will be, can definitely feel the energy!
  • JoyFull_deb
Good morning "Partner in Change!" Game on!! I'm strapped in and riding "shotgun" (that word should date me...) !! Let's GO...
  • YAYAYAY!!!! well sunshine, if that word dates you, I am right there with you- but hey, truth is, we just get better with time!! So good to see you & to be jumping in n this, my energy is way up!!
  • Sarah, I always learn something new when I make the time to visit your blog (either from your post or the thoughtful comments or both), which leads me to wonder why I don't stop by more often. Well, that's one habit I'll be changing in the next 30 days. ;) Thanks for your hard work in pulling this together - I'm excited to learn from you, your guests, and the other participants.
  • sarahrobinson
And we always benefit when you stop by Mickey. :-) This is going to be fun (in that challenging kind of way)!
  • michelesfakianos
Looking forward to making a change. Change is scary to me since I seem pretty comfortable in my little bubble right now. But this is a must for my success in 2010.
  • sarahrobinson
If change weren't scary, everyone would do it. :-) Glad you are here!
  • JoyFull_deb
Woo Hoo ~~ Game ABSOLUTELY on!! Thanks, Sarah.....We should be ROCK Stars at the end of the 30 days!!
  • sarahrobinson
Your enthusiasm is so inspiring Deb - thank you!
  • A very successful business consultant that is also a close family friend always says that the majority of success can be attributed to "just showing up". I think the advice you provided in this post is relevant not only to participating in this 30-day challenge, but also to participating in our businesses and our lives. I'm very much looking forward to participating...until tomorrow!
  • sarahrobinson
I totally agree with your friend Rachel. Building a foundation of "just showing up" can change anyone's game, yes? Thanks for joining us!
  • Fresh, fun idea! Love the choice (and mashup) of authors.
  • sarahrobinson
I'm stealing the "mashup" description. Cuz it is brilliant!
  • lkanda
Great post - sorry, had to do it :) I just finished a coaching call with a client that has made enormous progress because he committed to the process. I know for me, that is always the first step - commit and don't quit - because I am only quitting on myself. Sarah, thank you for providing us with this opportunity to commit and change for 2010. Last year was tough for many of us, and this is the kind of inspiration needed to start the New Year. It also helps me to fill my tank so I have more to offer others.
I look forward to the conversation and making connections.
  • sarahrobinson
haha!! Yes, in the end commitment makes all the difference. 2009 was a tough year in lots of different ways for lots of people. I know I need my tank refilled! SO glad you are along for the journey!
  • Sarah - looking forward to the posts and what Sherman Hu will bring tomorrow. I've read and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Michael Port's book, Think Big Manifesto - I've even added my own personal manifesto (a work in progress) on my website. Whoever wins will be a well deserved recipient of the book!
  • sarahrobinson
Michael is a good friend and I am thrilled to have a "spare to share"!
  • ronrobison
Let's go - looking forward to it.
  • sarahrobinson
You must have played my theme music. :-)
  • Whee! can't wait to get started :)
  • sarahrobinson
I love the word Whee! My son taught me it's fabulousness when he was three years old!
