Here We Are – 30 Days Later [Day 30 - 30 Days to Changing Your Game]

This is Day 30 of 30 Days to Changing Your Game. Yesterday Chris Garrett moved us into starting a whole new game – SO perfect!!

And today….today you get ME!

So first….today’s theme song is: Don’t You Forget About Me by Simple Minds: http://tinysong.com/75LD

And here we are. Thirty days later.

Wow what a thirty days it has been.

As a quick refresher, take a look back at Day 1. Some of you were here, some of you weren’t – and that is ok. But I want you to scroll through the comments to get an idea of where this all began.

To me it seems like a lifetime ago. So much has changed for me I can hardly put it all into words.  As I shared in the email I sent to everyone, in the past 30 days I have:

-Launched the GameChangers Roundtable with 12 of my amazing friends and colleagues. When I look at the list of speakers I think “I cannot BELIEVE these incredible people are my friends!”

-Launched a new business venture and secured my first client – with a second on the way.
-Began conversations about another business venture with someone who is SO incredible. We will iron out the details this weekend. (Update on this – we are ROLLING – w00t!)
-Began yet ANOTHER conversation about ANOTHER business venture that will take off in the next two weeks.

-Built the BEST crackerjack team of experts to help me run my businesses. Their expertise is unsurpassed.

And since I sent that email, over the weekend actually, someone with a MAJOR live event asked me to put together a two hour playlist for her. Why? Because she loved the tunes that I posted here everyday.

I am still pretty stunned by it all.

And it’s not that I am so great or special or anything. It is because I burned my ships and made the decision. Scary – no -  terrifying and I had no idea all this was going to happen. But it has so here I am.

But you know what the true highlight of the past 30 days has been for me?

Watching all of you.

I have intentionally stayed in the background of the conversations you were having because I never want the tribe to be dependent on me. And boy did you all rise to the challenge.

Such magical shifts, conversations and relationships have unfolded here – such a joy to watch.

You are positively astonishing.

So what I would like you to share is this: what is the one highlight of the 30 Days that stands out for you? It might be a favorite post, an ah-ha, a friendship, a comment, a business/life opportunity – or even one of the songs (you get brownie point for saying one of the songs – just so you know!). :-)

So re-visit the person you were thirty days ago and share a little about who you are now.

As always, I simply can’t WAIT to hear what you have to say.

oh – P.S. Don’t forget to RSVP for your FREE seat at the GameChangers Roundtable. You will get to hear some amazing people share the nitty gritty on exactly why and how they changed their games. Starts Thursday! http://bit.ly/gamechangers

Sarah — these 30 days have truly been game changing! As I shared with you I was inspired to do my first “live guest blogger” at my own website (because of YOU — I adore fellow innovators). And I have reaped so many benefits in stopping by and interacting with the amazing line up of writers and teachers you brought here. Many I knew from this world of personal growth online, but was also excited to meet some new souls on this journey (Carla and Sherman stand out to me from Days 2 and 3 when they Rocked me and got me to face the “Holy Shit” moments).
I am not surprised to see you LAUNCHING your escape to a whole new level. With friends like this in your corner, how could you not?
You truly are the ‘chief of the hooligans’ — thanks for your generosity and for letting us play in your playground.
Looking forward to the roundtable and lots more.
    GO TRIBE.
    love, Heather

Yeah for you Heather – awesome that you took ACTION!!! And please know that I couldn’t do anything that I am dong now without the safety of knowing the tribe has my back. :-)

      You ROCK!
      Sarah

Good for you Heather. And ditto to the things you said about this program.

Wow, Sarah. What a brillant completing question for perspective: “re-visit the person you were 30 days ago”.

Unable to resist the brownie points and gold stars: Let’s Dance!, Sandy Grason’s reference to “Let’s Get Loud”.

Having created my geek-binder with 30 tabs, I looked back on it. What a treasure. Thanks to you and every one of the “posters” for the generosity, wisdom, candor, ethusiasm (my personal fave) and support.

ONE highlight? You’re funny. Looking at the list of things we could share about – - “a favorite post, an ah-ha, a friendship, a comment, a business/life opportunity” – - I see that at its most basic, what I got is community and from that, all the rest flowed. What was created here was a collective of people out to create their lives, who care about the world, want to connect with other kinsmen and explore. It was safe and boatloads of fun. It created a space for me of “hey, anything really is possible.”

I am not at all the person I was 30 days ago . . . or maybe I’m just more of who I’ve really always been and am now more comfortable with it (even the DIScomfort). The freedom to explore and to “listen” as others shared catapulted my own process.

You get even more brownie points because I chose that song!!! And isn’t a tribe like awesome-freakin-tastic?!!

My favorite part of what you said is that you are more of who you really are. Isn’t that what it is all about?

      Way. to. go. :-)

      “Let’s Dance…” I love, COWA-FREAKIN’-BUNGA…

    Hi Sarah,

Thank you for pulling this together! I loved your song choices. I’m a singer so this made the entire event truly unique.
The best part? It was fun! (I’m all about getting more fun into our lives.) I enjoyed the different perspectives posted by the bloggers as well as the comments from your readers. It all fit together like a giant blogging puzzle.

I really appreciated the way your bloggers interacted with those who commented and the commentees with each other. All my comments got a response. So thank you for that. Comments make the Internet go round!

You’re a great organizer and tribe rallier. You devised a unique way to keep your audience engaged. It kept me returning day after day.

    Much thx!

Just yesterday I told someone “If it isn’t fun, I’m really not interested in doing it.” Took me a long time to draw that line in the sand and I am SO glad I did.

And yay for you for being here and for intereacting. Makes a huge difference in the experience, no?!

  • Anonymous

So much has changed! In the last month I have started a blog, posted continually, introduced myself to the larger world, began the journey to finding MY place within this larger space……(so many things- long run on sentence!!) been introduced to AMAZING and INSPIRING people, learned to utilize and love Twitter, …..I really could go on. But most importantly, I’ve been introduced to a tribe of people that I do not want to let go of. I’m going to (belatedly!) put together a list of twitter names- and make a list- of everyone that comments today. I don’t want to lose you. So THANK YOU Sarah. And I really hope someday we can meet in person! All good things to you and Everyone here.

    • Anonymous

I have no doubt that we will all meet in person someday. :-) And WOW – all the amazing risks you’ve taken – CONGRATS!

And I must agree with you. The tribe that has formed here is unlike any other. Even the guest posters commented on the quality of the community here.

So glad you are a part of it. :-)

      • Anonymous

Me too! Ever grateful- and thanks so much for helping me get back here. ;)

Oooh, the Twitter list is a good idea!!!! Will you share it with the rest of us, as well? :)

Hey Megan! It’s been great for me to connect with and learn from you these past 30 days… CONGRATS on ALL (and you’ve made a TON) of changes and growth you’ve had. I’m in AWE of you on one thing you wrote and have made it my goal to be able to write the same thing 30 days from now: I have “learned to utilize and love Twitter!” I’ll see you there… and maybe on the Roundtable discussion… are you going to participate in that too?

    • http://twitter.com/cherrywoodburn Cherry Woodburn

Those things are wonderful Megan! Congratulations. Started a Wonderful Women Wednesdays #WWW where you tell women on FB or twitter how wonderful or beautiful they are just they way they are. One line is fine. Hope you join in. I’ll start on Tuesday and say Megan you were wonderful the way you were and wonderful the way you are. So glad you feel happy about yourself.

Thanks for setting this up, Sarah – I really enjoyed the opportunity to hear a different perspective every day. It was a fun ride. :)

Changing My Game has helped me to knock down boundaries and open myself up to many opportunities. They may not all pan out, but it’s a wonderful beginning and has set the foundation for many more options. I saved all the articles so will revisit the 30 day plan as a refresher and check a few missed days. Thanks to Sarah and ALL participants. Onward and upward!

    • Anonymous

woohoo to knocking down boundaries – yeah for you!!! And yes this thing is a living breathing entity. Always review and see what comes out afresh. :-)

  • http://sallyg.me Sally G.

Okay, you distracted me with ‘Brownie Points’ – I guess a part of me will always be an ambitious kiss-ass. Today’s song is one I have used often in the past. The music, the many ways the lyrics can be applied, the fact that it’s sung by Simple Minds ~ all make it an incredible choice.

Let me preface these comments by saying that I was an active participant in this Tribe up to, and including, January 26th — and then was absent for a period of time until Sunday Feb. 7th. The comments that follow represent an 11 day absence from this event ~ and my sincere apologies to all the Experts and Tribe Members who I have not yet had a chance to read and interact with.

What stands out most for me is a comment shared in Colin Wilson’s thread by Teresa Romain. IAMNOWHERE. I did see I Am Nowhere when I looked at it … and was startled to then see I Am Now Here. Such a simple thing – yet SO significant. Like, suddenly it’s totally acceptable that I’m not where I think I ‘should’ be – but that I am where I am. The energy shift that goes with that is powerful. Thank you Teresa.

Acceptance is a common theme for me with regards to the last 30 days actually ~ I have been struck by how gracious, supportive and friendly everyone has been. I love how ‘safe’ it felt to leave replies to the comments of others — and I’ll admit that having the ‘expert’ reply directly to a comment of mine was a thrill every time. When this was subsequently followed up by a Twitter Follow … I was more grateful than they’d probably ever know.

Sandy Grason was the mirror reflecting who I have the potential to be, if I allow my Self to fully emerge and stop judging Play so harshly.

Drewmaniac, Carla Young, Sophronia and Colin Wilson have been very generous with their twitter interactions and I’m so grateful. ElizabethPW (whose post I have not yet read) is a remarkable young woman who, I feel, has only truly begun to tap into her power – and as impressive as her sphere of influence appears to be, it’s nothing compared to what is yet to come.

For me, the greatest gift I have received from this event is the community interaction. There are inspiring people everywhere you look. There are people here who have already been through where I am, or are right there with me, or are just now finding themselves there – which allows me to serve as a resource. The courage, the commitment, the willingness to be vulnerable, and the enthusiasm to support and share has been overwhelming. This is what I’ll remember most.

Thank you to everyone who honoured my words, who shared parts of your Self, who made me feel welcomed and appreciated — and who found me on Twitter (and even at Caring Creates) for continued and immediate interaction.

Sarah – for me, you will be forever linked to Freyja – a Nordic Earth Goddess of fertility, celebration and passion. She rides in a chariot pulled by mighty cats across the rainbow bridge connecting Heaven and Earth – teaching us to appreciate our attractiveness and to enjoy ourselves. Friday was named in her honour – as this day is associated with the end of the work week and a time for celebration. May you always unleash your adventurous side, take risks, make bold changes and have fun in celebration. Many blessings and thank you.

What a gracious and heartfelt post. Thank you for taking the time to compose it, Sally.

Googling for an image of Freyja – I LIKE her!!!

And thank you Sally. You gave so much of yourself here which is why, I believe, you’ve gotten so much out of it. And your comments was fabulously gracious. You are welcome. :-)

    • http://www.accessabundance.com/ Teresa Romain

Thank you Sally… I am humbled that my comment way back on Day 5 (?) when Sarah asked me to fill in for Colin and I stepped out of my comfort zone supported you so much. If only I could so graciously thank you for all you shared with me and that I learned from you. I hope “Thank you” will do…

      Teresa

    • http://twitter.com/cherrywoodburn Cherry Woodburn

Sally, so glad to read that you are now “here..”

    • http://www.anjwritesabout.com AnjWrites

Sally- You know how I feel about you…that comment just beautifully illustrates why I am grateful each day for your presence in my life. Thank YOU!! xoxo

Amen to all that! The IAMNOWHERE response was huge to me. In fact I think it was originally in response to my post at the time. I cried when I saw the words change in front of my eyes. (and baby, I will use it in my talks from now on too!)

I am stepping out in a totally new direction with the Romance Rescue and am in the sick to my stomach stage, but hey – my first preview call is tomorrow. I’ll hold more w/ anyone who wants to join me. (Nice affiliate stuff and all)
but mostly I learned that its perfectly fine to be right where we are.

Thank you for all the friendship built on this blog.

  • http://ramartijr.com Richard Allan Marti Jr

Sarah! Thank you for pulling this all together for us. Two things stand out for me. The amazing list of contributors and the engagement + dialog they had with the participants is the first. The second, as I traveled this journey, the changes I have noticed in myself, especially the restoration of my self confidence. ( 2009 was a very difficult year for me.) Thank you all so very much.

    • Anonymous

You have no idea how much it means to me that 30 Days played some small part in moving you into the space that’s been waiting for you Richard. I am thrilled for you. :-)

    • http://www.care2.com/causes/trailblazers/ Sue Anne Reed

I wonder how many of us could say that 2009 was a disappointing year for us. It definitely was for me, and this series came along just at the right time.

      • http://www.randomshelly.com/blog/ Shelly

I can definitely say 2009 was a disappointing year for me – but I’m with you that this series and the people are making 2010 already better!

      • Anonymous

Yup. Me too. Very tough year.

  • Anonymous

Well, those 30 days flew by. I did miss a few to being sick but I will go back and read through. For me, the post that stood out the most was Sherman’s (@ShermanHu) post. This is because he gave me tools to utilize in shaping up how my 2010 will turn out with measureable and action oriented steps to take to keep accountable.

However, that is not to dismiss the other posters because as I read through each post, I could feel a thought, an MO or a paradigm being altered or shifted slightly. This truly has been a unique experience for me and my official first entrance into the social media world and what a venture it was.

So where do I go from here? Hard to say!. I do look forward to joining the round table discussion, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I would be referring back to this often to refresh from time to time.

I have “met” some interesting people on here. I do hope to keep in touch with those, although being unexperienced in the social media world, I am not sure how one does that.

To the posters: You are an amazing bunch of people. Sarah is truly blessed to count you among her friends. You inspire, you encourage, you challenge and you do it all with a gentle and enthusiastic bluntness that is truly endearing. Thank you for inspiring, encouraging, challenging, and supporting and for giving of you own time to participate and aid us in this journey.

To Sarah: Hmm…what do you say to someone that you don’t know who facilitated an event that radically changed your thoughts and ensuing actions, your paradigms and ultimately touched your life? What do you say to this same someone who broadened your horizons and introduced you to uplifting people? Thank you seems not enough. I do know this, however, when I get to some of these “final” destinations, I know that I will count you and being integral in my journey to get there. If there were a page of dedication for my life: you’d be on it.

PS-another song I thought fitting for today was: “We are the Champions” by Queen

    • Anonymous

Think I might cry Kristie. Wow. Thank you.

Remember – you are the one who did all the heavy lifting to get where you are now. And i don’t think the tribe plans on disappearing anytime soon. We will get you up to speed on social media, but you can always find us here.

And your song was on my short list. :-)

  • Anonymous

Oh hon, these last 30 days have not just changed my game, they’ve changed my life. But you’re pretty funny if you think we can narrow it down to just one highlight. There are so many, and all are different, special, and fantastic in their own way.

But I think the thing that stands out for me the most (and okay, I’ll admit right now that I’m going to cheat and combine two!) is the wonderful, amazing group of people I have met, both the guests you’ve introduced us to as well as the people participating, and along with that is the awareness that we all seem to have the same desires to change, but also the same fears and insecurities – even the successful people you’ve introduced us to each day. That for me has been very eye-opening. We are not walking this path alone, and the people who have walked before us have taught us all so much through their honesty and transparency.

And of course, all of it has been led by you, one of the most generous and amazing people I’ve had the great fortune to meet. I look forward to watching all of the exciting new things you are doing, because you are such an inspiration to all of us.

    Thank you.

    xoxo,

    Lori

See? I knew my friends could ramp up everyone’s game and not just mine! SO glad they moved you in so many ways, Lori.

I think “That’s not my name” by the Ting Tings is my fave, because I get to jump around my office. :)

That said, when I started this challenge, I could tell things were shifting, but I wasn’t sure where they would end up. Within the first week of the challenge, I accepted a new position within the agency and would be charged, in part, with steering the direction of the agency as it navigates the social media landscape.

Wow, huh? I spent that first full week “watching where the bubbles went.” Total immersion in the deep end and overwhelmed by the vast amount of information available to me, I just absorbed, knowing that I could handle it. I watched for the bubbles to get my bearings, set my course and take action.

Through this group, I have found some really intelligent, growth-seeking folks who make me laugh. I’ve connected with new friends and formed new communities. I’ve set the bar higher. I also honored my commitment to myself to post each day.

I’m excited to see where the next 30 days leads.

Again, my thanks to you, Sarah, for establishing the forum.

    • http://www.randomshelly.com/blog/ Shelly

That is SO awesome!! And you know WHY you got so much from 30 Days??? Because you committed to showing up here every single day – and you did. When you step into the unverse like that, AMAZING things happen.

Can’t wait to see what else shows up for you!!

  • http://themarketingmark.blogspot.com MarkSherrick

I just want to thank you for doing all of this, Sarah. To be honest, its hard for me to tell what changes have been inspired with the past 30 days, because you’ve been changing my life for longer than that. I love that the past 30 days have let me meet several people that do have the same issues and whatnot that I do.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all thirty of you who contributed posts, and to those of you I interacted with.

Changing your life or kicking your ass???!!!!

Thank you Mark. Your kind words mean so much. :-)

      • http://themarketingmark.blogspot.com MarkSherrick

You’ve done both, Sarah. You’ve kicked me in the ass a couple times when I needed it, and you’ve helped me out quite a bit. I doubt my online presence would be where it is today without you.

  • http://www.powtercoaching.com/ Jennifer

Oh Sarah – Thank you. I was here 30 days ago and I’m still here. I’ve read every single post and all of the comments that have flowed along with them and have been amazed, felt inspired and in awe of the people who are part of your tribe. I feel sad that this is “ending” as, like everything in my life, I just want more time. Time to digest, time to connect, time to share – I’m in the process of creating more support for myself so I can do my thing…and it’s coming. To all of you, the amazing people who’ve been so brave and vulnerable to really share what’s going on for you, thank you. I was scared shitless 30 days ago and I’ve managed to turn the volume down, alot. In fact, I’ve decided.

I’ve decided to be successful, to claim my space, to have my opinions and do my work. I will write – I will be me – I will take risks.

Thank you for sharing your amazing friends with me and I can’t wait for the roundtable.

    Hugs,
    Jen

  • http://www.jessilicious.com Jess Webb

Wow – where to begin! As I look back to Day 1, 30 days ago, I feel like I haven’t moved – and at the same time I’ve come soooo far! ;) I started out thinking about re-starting a business, then watched as that idea had to go, along with other ideas that came and went. I am ending the 30 days still not sure on the WHAT, but know that I’ll figure it out, that as I continue to connect with me and let me BE me, the rest will come when the time is right. As I move forward to the next step, I know that when I am ready for it, the step after that will reveal itself.

I’ve learned that pain can be embraced, pushed through, and used to hone and strengthen me. I’ve learned that “I get knocked down but I get up again – You’re never gonna keep me down!” And that even though the place where I am at may feel a bit “icky” and “uncertain” and very frustrating, I’ll get through it and come out the other side more connected with who I am, and closer than ever to my own North Star.

But I think the BIGGEST thing for me has been connecting with others in this Tribe. And beginning to learn to use Twitter to connect, as well! I don’t want that part to end – and I will certainly continue to participate in the Tribe, and connect more with those of you who are on Twitter. A BIG THANK YOU to all of you for connecting, encouraging, sharing your wisdom and BEING YOU! :)

  • Kristin

First of all: a big THANK YOU, Sarah. You put together an amazing series of posts, each one with a different perspective that kept the synapses in my brain going. When I started this game-changing journey 30 days ago I wasn’t so sure if it is the right thing for me to do. My word for the last year would be ‘change’; so I had the feeling that I would just like to have some consistency instead of more change.

Now, 30 days later I am more than happy that I joined the tribe and stayed. I cannot pick one single post, comment or person that made the journey so great. It was the perfect composition of everything together. Inspiring, thought-provoking posts, very honest and personal comments, a kind and supportive tribe and last buit not least a funny, motivating organiser :-) The ‘speakers’ were great, each of them giving us their time and supporting us the whole day with comments, encouraging us on our way, showing us a different direction to go and celebrating our successes.

After 30 days I feel alive and centered, more confident in me and thrilled by the opportunities of my game. The tribe has become a part of my world I don’t want to miss. I never felt so safe in an online community. Everybody shared his/her challenges, fears, successes – I am not alone with my doubts and found wonderful support in the tribe. So Megan, your twitter list is a great idea! Please share :-)

Well, back to my word for this year. It’s not ‘change’ again, although it would be obvious regarding the challenge was all about changing our games. I choose ‘growing’ as my word for 2010 because that is what I did in the past 30 days. My mind opened to new ideas, I met new friends-to-be in the tribe and my self-confidence jumped three steps ahead to sneak at the next level of the game. Thank you all!

    • http://www.accessabundance.com/ Teresa Romain

It’s been fun GROWING with you Kristin!

      • Kristin

And I certainly hope that we will continue growing, Teresa!

    • Anonymous

Wow Kristin – SUCH good stuff. Super proud of you. And yes, “growth” is an excellent word to choose because it is a continuous journey. A journey you began here and will continue out in the great big world.

      w00t!

Sarah, I can’t thank you enough for your inspiration and support. Look forward to listening in on the roundtable :-)

    Hi Sarah

I am still catching up with the great posts and comments, what I have read is a huge testament to you and the team you assembled and the interactions from the fabulous people that have commented has been inspirational.

A HUGE thanks to Teresa for stepping in when I lost my connection for several days. Teresa’s responses were illuminating, I think it made the post significantly better and I am sure helped many of the readers and commentators more than I could possibly have done. Thank you Teresa.

The biggest thing that stands out for me Sarah is – “Community.” As Martha Beck said “The meaning of life is not what happens to people. The meaning of life is what happens between people.” The community stepped up and shared knowledge, urged each other on, contemplated together and above all showed a sense of unity.

Thank you Sarah for your enthusiasm, entrepeneur spirit and drive to make this happen so others can escape mediocrity. Very best wishes to you with the ventures that you have rolling out and everything else in your life.

God Loves you and so do I

    Colin

WOW Colin! GREAT to “meet” you. And you are welcome… but, in truth, I thank you! I know you didn’t INTEND to not be online that day, but (as you’ll see in my comment) – that day I stepped in for you was not just a “game-changer” – it was a LIFE-changer.

So Great to meet you too Teresa. Your comment above is an excellent reflection of what Sarah sought to achieve through this fabulous idea. Delighted to hear “that day” has been a LIFE-changer for you. I genuinely believe that the quality of your answers enhanced the post considerably and the diversity must have made the post so much more beneficial. Look forward so much to connecting more.

        God Bless, Colin

Thank you Colin. For more than I can put into words. :-)

I’ve really loved this 30 Day series and I can’t believe how fast it went!!! Thanks so much to Sarah for bringing all of this inspiration and enlightenment into our lives!

I loved the posts and I really identified quite a few of them. But I think my favorite was Day 18, Be Scary, Unfriend, and Jump in Puddles: What to Do on Day 1 by Elizabeth Potts Weinstein. The reason I really liked that post was because I actually took action in my own life. I wrote an article that I was really proud of and I just submitted it. I didn’t think. I didn’t question. I just did it. It didn’t get picked up but that’s okay. I’m still thriving off the high and I intend to keep going. Just keep doing.

    • Anonymous

w00t Kerri!!! Way to take action! Because the more action you take, the more likely you are to succees. A long time ago, someone taught me that the efforts are up to me; the results are up to God (and I have to let him do his job!).

      Super proud of you!

  • http://www.randomshelly.com/blog/ Shelly

I agree with everyone else – You are hilarious to think that we could come up with one post or one moment from this last 30 days! There are so many! Every single day, something in each of the posts made me pause. Sometimes they made me say “DUH” to myself when the comment slapped me on the forehead, I kind of have a little swollen forehead now, thanks… ;) Sometimes the comments made me say “Hmmmmm” as I tried to figure out how they fit into my life, and lastly sometimes the comments made me tear up because they hit me straight in the gut, heart, soul and mind…

I know that I have been silent on a lot of the days (have been very sick for 2 weeks now) but I want the whole tribe to know that I have gone back and read all the comments and have thoroughly enjoyed getting introduced to everyone. If you follow me on twitter and I don’t follow you back it is ONLY because I didn’t put the names together – so say Howdy to me! I would love to keep up the connections and the input from the tribe!

Lastly, Sarah, I am so glad you did this and I’m glad it has helped you step up your game also! I think every single person you got to participate in this rocked! (and I’m including the tribe in that too – not just the posters!) I have cheered, laughed, smiled, and cried reading some of the posts and comments!

As for what I have done during the last 30 days? I wrote my Grandmother a letter (it got returned – I put the wrong address on there – but have re-sent it – LOL) I wrote emails to people at work setting up things to change. (The president is out of town until next week, so that is the first time we can meet since I want it to be in person) I have posted a few of my short stories on my blog for people to read. I started working harder on another blog that I created for motivation… And I have been spinning my thoughts and ideas in my head to get out the novels that I need to write. After the year I had last year – that is a LOT for me to do in 30 days – and I still feel like I am paralyzed… but I’m not and I’m glad.

    Thanks. XOXO
    Shelly

You rock, Shelly – so glad you have made the changes for yourself…and look forward to following you on Twitter & your blog (I’m gonna bug you til you get that vlog up, too!)

Hey Shelly! I sure hope you’re feeling better soon! Sounds like you had a bunch of what I call “Flat Forehead Moments!” Me too! And it was great to be connected with you!

Can’t wait to see ya on twitter! I’m @randomshelly – and my email is randomshelly (at) gmail (dot) com :)

I am glad I can be an endless source of amusement for everyone. :-)

You’ve done some pretty awesome things Shelly. And OF COURSE it feels scary and you are choosing to NOT let it paralyze you. Just that is a pretty big game-changer if you ask me.

    Sarah~

Thank you for all of your behind the scenes hard work…putting something like this together is not easy, but you made it look so effortless and brilliant!

The highlight for me was reading everyone’s thoughts and comments after each post…amazingly insightful, introspective and the way everyone took the information and applied it was phenomenal (sorry the teacher in me coming out!) To use one of my favorite sayings…”learning has occurred!” That must be SO gratifying for you:-) Reading such heartfelt posts where everyone really put themselves out there…I can’t even describe it! Everyone who took part should be so very proud of stepping out of his/her comfort zone…it’s awesome:-)

OK…one more highlight;-) I loved putting myself in learning mode as well (you know us INFJ’s~the counselors:-))so that was a challenge for me, but definitely a fun one!

Many, many thanks Dear Sarah~you ROCK! (hoping to thank you in person next month at sxsw!!) ;-)

    • Anonymous

You are kind to give me so much credit Danielle, but without a Willing Tribe, all of the posters and I would have been hearing crickets. :-)

And congrats on being in learning mode. That’s a pretty big deal for an INFJ!

Has it been 30 days? Holy schnikes. How did that happen? The has been an amazing 30 days. I have enjoyed every damn minute of it. Thanks to all of you for sharing your wisdom and insight. I have done more thinking in this 30 days than I did in all of 2005. I’m not kidding. I feel my perspective has shifted. I have at times nodded in agreement, been hit by the bog ol’ clue by four, reveled in my own thoughts and those of others, accepted more, embraced more and learned like you have no idea. I cannot even put to words how grateful am I for that.

What’s more, I am eternally grateful for having found my tribe. I have people and you all are my people. I will continue to seek you out for inspiration, clarity or a kick in the ass (either receiving or, you know, giving :) ). Cue music: And IIIII-IIIII will always love you-ouuuuu-ouuu. I am no Dolly Parton.

When we meet in person, I will insist that you sing that. :-)

And I am so thrilled that you have stretched yourself so much. Mostly I am glad you found your tribe. It simply wouldn’t be the same without you. :-)

Thanks Sarah. You pulled a lot of people and techie things together for this. Great job and it sounds like some of the benefits you are reaping in because of it. Congrats. I too have been doing things differently. Something in ElizabethPW post caused me to do one thing differently and it’s had a ripple effect.

    • http://www.randomshelly.com/blog/ Shelly

Isn’t it amazing the phenomenon of that ripple effect??

      • http://www.accessabundance.com/ Teresa Romain

        AMEN!!!!! :-)

  • jen.

I am not ready for it to be over! And I guess it isn’t…the tribe will go on, and we can come and loiter on Escaping Mediocrity and connect here there and everywhere! More soon, I wanted to check in and at least say YAY SARAH (and ALL my new lovely friends!).

    • http://www.accessabundance.com/ Teresa Romain

I’m with you Jen! I don’t want it to end either! Are you going to be in the Roundtable as you next step?

  • Ava Diamond (@feistywoman)

    Wow, what a 30 days it’s been!

I’m filled with gratitude for many reasons. Each of the guest posters has contributed to my life in some way. And the tribe of commenters–well, wow!–what an amazing group of people…learning, growing, sharing, building community.
I’ve listened to new music, thought of things in new ways, and taken new action. It’s been really awesome.

And my heart is filled with gratitude for you, Sarah. For taking the risk, for burning the ships, for playing bigger, for sharing your inspiration and your friends, for taking your tribe to the next level, and for all that is yet to come. It’s exciting to see you grow, and to have you share your process with us.

Congratulations to you for what you’ve accomplished, and to each of us, for who we’ve allowed ourselves to become.

The best is yet to come ; )

You truly are the 'chief of the hooligans' — thanks for your generosity and for letting us play in your playground.
Looking forward to the roundtable and lots more.
    GO TRIBE.
    love, Heather

For me, this series couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve mentioned, before on other posts in the series, that the 2nd half of 2009 was one of the worst times professionally for me since I began my career in marketing 15 years ago. I felt stuck and trapped and unsure of what state I wanted to live in, what types of jobs I wanted to pursue, whether I was qualified to pursue those types of jobs.

I remember reading the first couple of days of this series and thinking, “but, what if I want to be mediocre” … why is that bad? As I continued to read the series (and, I read more than I didn’t, even if I didn’t post to all the ones I read), I realized that in fact I don’t want to be mediocre, but I also need to recognize my own limitations when it comes to risk management and finding what success means to me. There are things that are risky and there are things that are foolish. I can accept some risk, but I can’t afford (physically, emotionally or financially) to be foolish.

I don’t necessarily want to be the @chrisbrogan or the “rockstar” of the social media world. What I would prefer to be is someone that is recognized for giving 100% of my effort and if I can be the @scottmonty or the @comcastcares of a company and elevate that company, I’d be really happy with that.

    • http://twitter.com/mckra1g mckra1g

      >”"but, what if I want to be mediocre” … why is that bad?”

Yep. That quiet little lizard brain voice that dulls us to our potential. It’s so insidious and comfortable. …I’m so glad I was part of this tribe, so that I have a chorus to help drown out that voice of mediocrity. :)

  • LaConsuelo

Wow, Sarah. What a brillant completing question for perspective: “re-visit the person you were 30 days ago”.

Unable to resist the brownie points and gold stars: Let's Dance!, Sandy Grason's reference to “Let's Get Loud”.

Having created my geek-binder with 30 tabs, I looked back on it. What a treasure. Thanks to you and every one of the “posters” for the generosity, wisdom, candor, ethusiasm (my personal fave) and support.

ONE highlight? You're funny.

I am not at all the person I was 30 days ago . . . or maybe I'm just more of who I've really always been and am now more comfortable with it (even the DIScomfort). The freedom to explore and to “listen” as others shared catapulted my own process.

    COWA-FREAKIN'-BUNGA!!

    Hi Sarah,

Thank you for pulling this together! I loved your song choices. I'm a singer so this made the entire event truly unique.
The best part? It was fun! (I'm all about getting more fun into our lives.) I enjoyed the different perspectives posted by the bloggers as well as the comments from your readers. It all fit together like a giant blogging puzzle.

I really appreciated the way your bloggers interacted with those who commented and the commentees with each other. All my comments got a response. So thank you for that. Comments make the Internet go round!

You're a great organizer and tribe rallier. You devised a unique way to keep your audience engaged. It kept me returning day after day.

    Much thx!

But most importantly, I've been introduced to a tribe of people that I do not want to let go of. I'm going to (belatedly!) put together a list of twitter names- and make a list- of everyone that comments today. I don't want to lose you. So THANK YOU Sarah. And I really hope someday we can meet in person! All good things to you and Everyone here.

  • http://ItStartsWith.Us Nate St. Pierre

Thanks for setting this up, Sarah – I really enjoyed the opportunity to hear a different perspective every day. It was a fun ride. :)

  • doforanimals

Changing My Game has helped me to knock down boundaries and open myself up to many opportunities. They may not all pan out, but it's a wonderful beginning and has set the foundation for many more options. I saved all the articles so will revisit the 30 day plan as a refresher and check a few missed days. Thanks to Sarah and ALL participants. Onward and upward!

  • http://www.facebook.com/pages/Caring-Creates-/228986840568 Sally G.

Okay, you distracted me with 'Brownie Points' – I guess a part of me will always be an ambitious kiss-ass. Today's song is one I have used often in the past. The music, the many ways the lyrics can be applied, the fact that it's sung by Simple Minds ~ all make it an incredible choice.

What stands out most for me is a comment shared in Colin Wilson's thread by Teresa Romain. IAMNOWHERE. I did see I Am Nowhere when I looked at it … and was startled to then see I Am Now Here. Such a simple thing – yet SO significant. Like, suddenly it's totally acceptable that I'm not where I think I 'should' be – but that I am where I am. The energy shift that goes with that is powerful. Thank you Teresa.

Acceptance is a common theme for me with regards to the last 30 days actually ~ I have been struck by how gracious, supportive and friendly everyone has been. I love how 'safe' it felt to leave replies to the comments of others — and I'll admit that having the 'expert' reply directly to a comment of mine was a thrill every time. When this was subsequently followed up by a Twitter Follow … I was more grateful than they'd probably ever know.

Sandy Grason was the mirror reflecting who I have the potential to be, if I allow my Self to fully emerge and stop judging Play so harshly.

Drewmaniac, Carla Young, Sophronia and Colin Wilson have been very generous with their twitter interactions and I'm so grateful. ElizabethPW (whose post I have not yet read) is a remarkable young woman who, I feel, has only truly begun to tap into her power – and as impressive as her sphere of influence appears to be, it's nothing compared to what is yet to come.

This is what I'll remember most.

  • ramartijr

  • kristieschwanebeck

Well, those 30 days flew by. I did miss a few to being sick but I will go back and read through. For me, the post that stood out the most was Sherman's (@ShermanHu) post.

To Sarah: Hmm…what do you say to someone that you don't know who facilitated an event that radically changed your thoughts and ensuing actions, your paradigms and ultimately touched your life? What do you say to this same someone who broadened your horizons and introduced you to uplifting people? Thank you seems not enough. I do know this, however, when I get to some of these “final” destinations, I know that I will count you and being integral in my journey to get there. If there were a page of dedication for my life: you'd be on it.

PS-another song I thought fitting for today was: “We are the Champions” by Queen

  • lorilatimer

Oh hon, these last 30 days have not just changed my game, they've changed my life. But you're pretty funny if you think we can narrow it down to just one highlight. There are so many, and all are different, special, and fantastic in their own way.

But I think the thing that stands out for me the most (and okay, I'll admit right now that I'm going to cheat and combine two!) is the wonderful, amazing group of people I have met, both the guests you've introduced us to as well as the people participating, and along with that is the awareness that we all seem to have the same desires to change, but also the same fears and insecurities – even the successful people you've introduced us to each day. That for me has been very eye-opening. We are not walking this path alone, and the people who have walked before us have taught us all so much through their honesty and transparency.

And of course, all of it has been led by you, one of the most generous and amazing people I've had the great fortune to meet. I look forward to watching all of the exciting new things you are doing, because you are such an inspiration to all of us.

    Thank you.

    xoxo,

    Lori

I think “That's not my name” by the Ting Tings is my fave, because I get to jump around my office. :)

That said, when I started this challenge, I could tell things were shifting, but I wasn't sure where they would end up.

I've connected with new friends and formed new communities. I've set the bar higher. I also honored my commitment to myself to post each day.

I'm excited to see where the next 30 days leads.

Again, my thanks to you, Sarah, for establishing the forum.

  • Anonymous

Sarah – until you are better paid, please accept my thanks. In all honesty I do not know how I found about the Challenge but this has been a life changer for me. My favourite day – was ALL OF THEM!!!! I now have a binder full of all the posts and equally important the comments from people who have written thier truth.

How have I changed my course?

I signed up for a tutor teaching course so I can make a better contribution to the disabled community.
I finally made THE call to our local March of Dimes ( helps include people with challenges back into everyday society )
My blog ( Peter Bernier Unlimited ) is much closer to reality.

A big Thank you to all the members of your tribe.

  • sarahrobinson

Yeah for you Heather – awesome that you took ACTION!!! And please know that I couldn't do anything that I am dong now without the safety of knowing the tribe has my back. :-)

    You ROCK!
    Sarah

  • sarahrobinson

You get even more brownie points because I chose that song!!! And isn't a tribe like awesome-freakin-tastic?!!

My favorite part of what you said is that you are more of who you really are. Isn't that what it is all about?

    Way. to. go. :-)

  • sarahrobinson

Just yesterday I told someone “If it isn't fun, I'm really not interested in doing it.” Took me a long time to draw that line in the sand and I am SO glad I did.

And yay for you for being here and for intereacting. Makes a huge difference in the experience, no?!

  • http://themarketingmark.blogspot.com MarkSherrick

I just want to thank you for doing all of this, Sarah. To be honest, its hard for me to tell what changes have been inspired with the past 30 days, because you've been changing my life for longer than that. I love that the past 30 days have let me meet several people that do have the same issues and whatnot that I do.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all thirty of you who contributed posts, and to those of you I interacted with.

  • http://www.powtercoaching.com/ Jennifer

Oh Sarah – Thank you. I was here 30 days ago and I'm still here. I've read every single post and all of the comments that have flowed along with them and have been amazed, felt inspired and in awe of the people who are part of your tribe. I feel sad that this is “ending” as, like everything in my life, I just want more time. Time to digest, time to connect, time to share – I'm in the process of creating more support for myself so I can do my thing…and it's coming. To all of you, the amazing people who've been so brave and vulnerable to really share what's going on for you, thank you. I was scared shitless 30 days ago and I've managed to turn the volume down, alot. In fact, I've decided.

I've decided to be successful, to claim my space, to have my opinions and do my work. I will write – I will be me – I will take risks.

Thank you for sharing your amazing friends with me and I can't wait for the roundtable.

    Hugs,
    Jen

And I must agree with you. The tribe that has formed here is unlike any other. Even the guest posters commented on the quality of the community here.

So glad you are a part of it. :-)

And your song was on my short list. :-)

I can hardly begin to tell you how profoundly this has affected my life! I went from being dissatisfied and feeling stuck to having a clear goal and an action plan to get started.

From the very first Expert post by Sherman, I was blown away…and each day’s message built on the last. I had fun, learned about myself and other brilliant Tribe members and, ultimately, began taking steps toward my goals by pushing myself out of my cozy little comfort zone. Wow, Wow, WOW!!

This feels like just the start of my anything-but-mediocre life…and I can’t thank ALL OF YOU enough for being part of it. :-)

Oh, for Twitter lists you can find me through: @1writergrrl

Hey Anj! This has been GREAT!!! I’ll see you on Twitter REAL soon! And back here I hope!

(Are you going to be in the Roundtable?)

      Teresa

      • http://www.anjwritesabout.com AnjWrites

Agreed – soooo glad to have met you here, Teresa!! And, yes, I’ll be listening to the Roundtable.

One thing I’ve had to recognize this week, in my excitement I have “jumped in” to more things than I can possibly keep up with at once. So I’m pulling back or delaying a few projects, but I’m gonna keep moving forward. See you in Twitterland (or you can still join us now and again for the I Thought It Was Just Me online read-along http://ithoughitwasjustme.pnn.com) !!

Oooh, the Twitter list is a good idea!!!! Will you share it with the rest of us, as well? :)

I am late posting today but Snowmageddon II was getting in the way. First of all, brownie points. Tubthumping definitely is a favorite as is the song you chose for today – Don’t You Forget About Me. I am so grateful to you Sarah, and to all the people who took a day to post and then comment on what the tribe had to say. I really appreciate that.

I always find it interesting how things work out. I finally got on Twitter and found Sarah on a FF post. From there I got the 30 Days. From there I met some great people, and I look forward to developing those relationships. And who knows where that could lead. The possibilities truly are endless.

To me this last 30 days helped confirm that I am on the right path, but that I have to suck it up and do it, believe in myself and believe that it will work. This has given me more tools and many things to think about. I admit some of the posts are printed out and on my desk so that I can work on them further. So, in effect, this is much more than just 30 days!

Thanks again to everyone. I will miss the tribe, but I’m sure I’ll see you around somewhere.

    • http://www.accessabundance.com/ Teresa Romain

Hey Stephanie! It’s been GREAT connecting with you here – and look forward to continuing it!!!!! Good luck wtih all the snow!!!!

  • http://www.tehjess.com/ Jess Webb

Wow – where to begin! As I look back to Day 1, 30 days ago, I feel like I haven't moved – and at the same time I've come soooo far! ;) I started out thinking about re-starting a business, then watched as that idea had to go, along with other ideas that came and went. I am ending the 30 days still not sure on the WHAT, but know that I'll figure it out, that as I continue to connect with me and let me BE me, the rest will come when the time is right. As I move forward to the next step, I know that when I am ready for it, the step after that will reveal itself.

I've learned that pain can be embraced, pushed through, and used to hone and strengthen me. I've learned that “I get knocked down but I get up again – You're never gonna keep me down!” And that even though the place where I am at may feel a bit “icky” and “uncertain” and very frustrating, I'll get through it and come out the other side more connected with who I am, and closer than ever to my own North Star.

But I think the BIGGEST thing for me has been connecting with others in this Tribe. And beginning to learn to use Twitter to connect, as well! I don't want that part to end – and I will certainly continue to participate in the Tribe, and connect more with those of you who are on Twitter. A BIG THANK YOU to all of you for connecting, encouraging, sharing your wisdom and BEING YOU! :)

Thanks Sarah! It’s incredible how you pulled together such an amazing group, the posters and the participants alike. I know I didn’t jump in right away, but I have benefited so much from everyone. I certainly can’t single out one post – they were all great and each one triggered different responses, musings, etc. from me. Like others have said, I need to print out the posts and work through them all again.

I love this new community/tribe. This is a whole new concept for me, and based on the way I’m feeling about it, it must be what I’ve been waiting for! I’ve been “thinking” about social media a lot lately, but felt stuck about how to get started communicating with people I don’t already know. We have lots of snow here, with more on the way, but suddenly something in my head has thawed out and I’m like “aha” – a little crocus has just sprouted.

I’ve just started on Twitter, so I hope we do come up with a list. I’m “all in.”

Hey Megan! It's been great for me to connect with and learn from you these past 30 days… CONGRATS on ALL (and you've made a TON) of changes and growth you've had. I'm in AWE of you on one thing you wrote and have made it my goal to be able to write the same thing 30 days from now: I have “learned to utilize and love Twitter!” I'll see you there… and maybe on the Roundtable discussion… are you going to participate in that too?

First of all: a big THANK YOU, Sarah. You put together an amazing series of posts, each one with a different perspective that kept the synapses in my brain going. When I started this game-changing journey 30 days ago I wasn't so sure if it is the right thing for me to do. My word for the last year would be 'change'; so I had the feeling that I would just like to have some consistency instead of more change.

Now, 30 days later I am more than happy that I joined the tribe and stayed. I cannot pick one single post, comment or person that made the journey so great. It was the perfect composition of everything together. Inspiring, thought-provoking posts, very honest and personal comments, a kind and supportive tribe and last buit not least a funny, motivating organiser :-) The 'speakers' were great, each of them giving us their time and supporting us the whole day with comments, encouraging us on our way, showing us a different direction to go and celebrating our successes.

After 30 days I feel alive and centered, more confident in me and thrilled by the opportunities of my game. The tribe has become a part of my world I don't want to miss. I never felt so safe in an online community. Everybody shared his/her challenges, fears, successes – I am not alone with my doubts and found wonderful support in the tribe. So Megan, your twitter list is a great idea! Please share :-)

Well, back to my word for this year. It's not 'change' again, although it would be obvious regarding the challenge was all about changing our games. I choose 'growing' as my word for 2010 because that is what I did in the past 30 days. My mind opened to new ideas, I met new friends-to-be in the tribe and my self-confidence jumped three steps ahead to sneak at the next level of the game. Thank you all!

  • http://twitter.com/randomshelly Shelly

I love that the songs made you jump around the office! I have soooo enjoyed reading your comments and 'seeing' your growth!

  • http://twitter.com/ColinLewis Colin Lewis

    Hi Sarah

I am still catching up with the great posts and comments, what I have read is a huge testament to you and the team you assembled and the interactions from the fabulous people that have commented has been inspirational.

A HUGE thanks to Teresa for stepping in when I lost my connection for several days. Teresa's responses were illuminating, I think it made the post significantly better and I am sure helped many of the readers and commentators more than I could possibly have done.

    Colin

  • http://www.accessabundance.com/ Teresa Romain

    Sarah my dear… :-)

30 Days ago I told you “I’m HERE” and just being here was changing my game. Well – I’m pleased to say I am still HERE and I am changed – and so is the way I’m playing my game. Thank you… for this opportunity. Thank you for all the changes you will never know about that have come about, in large part, because of what I have witnessed, experienced and learned from you. Thank you for that day – two and a half years ago – when you invited me to “play in your sandbox”. :-)

Highlights for me (and there have been SO many)…

Probably the biggest one for me came on the morning of Day 5 when I got the email from you: “HUGE favor to ask”. That’s when you asked me to fill in for Colin on the day when the subject was MONEY. Talk about jumping into the deep end of the pool not yet knowing if I could swim! But seriously, as scary and exhilarating as it was for me… it was probably on of the greatest gifts I have ever been given. NOT because I got to be the “expert” but because of the humbling opportunity it was for me to connect and share with so many people in this tribe – and learn from them. That was a holy day for me… and I thank you AND everyone in this TRIBE for their graciousness in letting me STEP OUT and and STEP INTO being me that day.

    Other highlights…
**Carla’s “Sabotage: Who Me?” kept me moving forward in this process and my life more times than I can count.
**Bob Burg’s Go-Giver (vs Go-Getter) day was big – both for his post AND for the courage I stepped into to be vulnerable and ask a question that may not have made me “look good”
**The Yoda quote from Shelley Kramer, “Why would you try so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out?”
**Marie’s day was HUGE for me too… the day I was tempted to quit (“RETREAT!) and I showed up (YAY!) and the day I started to ask myself serious question about whether I’m really changing my game or just putting a new facade on the same game
** Elizabeth M’ post and realizing I no longer have to be ashamed of being afraid
** Allison’s post and me stepping into and putting out a dream that is so different from what I “do” now
**Michael’s 9 ways post was one I will read again and again

All of which crescendoed for me yesterday… and what was probably the most important post for me when Chris reminded me to choose what will make me fulfilled – even if society sees me as “playing small”.

What a priceless gift this experience has been… and NOT because of the “information” I learned from the experts – but because of the EXPERIENCE I was able to share. At the end of these 30 days, I feel clearer and freer and more engaged in the world (and my life) than I have in a VERY long time.

My fave song was “Tubthumping”. And a song that I’ve been humming as I typed this is “A Whole New World” from Aladdin. Two lines in particular stick out to describe this experience:

    “A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
    Or where to go
    Or say we’re only dreaming…

    A whole new world
(Don’t you dare close your eyes)
A hundred thousand things to see
(Hold your breath it gets better)
    I’m like a shooting star
    I’ve come so far
I can’t go back to where I used to be.”

    Thank you ALL!!!

    xoox Teresa

Great summary Teresa! AND I LOVE that song too! :)

I wonder how many of us could say that 2009 was a disappointing year for us. It definitely was for me, and this series came along just at the right time.

  • http://kcarpenter.pnn.com/ QuestionKerri

I've really loved this 30 Day series and I can't believe how fast it went!!!

I didn't think. I didn't question. I just did it. It didn't get picked up but that's okay. I'm still thriving off the high and I intend to keep going. Just keep doing.

  • http://twitter.com/randomshelly Shelly

If you follow me on twitter and I don't follow you back it is ONLY because I didn't put the names together – so say Howdy to me! I would love to keep up the connections and the input from the tribe!

Lastly, Sarah, I am so glad you did this and I'm glad it has helped you step up your game also! I think every single person you got to participate in this rocked! (and I'm including the tribe in that too – not just the posters!) I have cheered, laughed, smiled, and cried reading some of the posts and comments!

After the year I had last year – that is a LOT for me to do in 30 days – and I still feel like I am paralyzed… but I'm not and I'm glad.

    Thanks. XOXO
    Shelly

    Sarah~

Thank you for all of your behind the scenes hard work…putting something like this together is not easy, but you made it look so effortless and brilliant!

The highlight for me was reading everyone's thoughts and comments after each post…amazingly insightful, introspective and the way everyone took the information and applied it was phenomenal (sorry the teacher in me coming out!) To use one of my favorite sayings…”learning has occurred!” That must be SO gratifying for you:-) Reading such heartfelt posts where everyone really put themselves out there…I can't even describe it! Everyone who took part should be so very proud of stepping out of his/her comfort zone…it's awesome:-)

OK…one more highlight;-) I loved putting myself in learning mode as well (you know us INFJ's~the counselors:-))so that was a challenge for me, but definitely a fun one!

Many, many thanks Dear Sarah~you ROCK! (hoping to thank you in person next month at sxsw!!) ;-)

Sarah, thanks so much for pulling this together!

It’s true I’ve been a little distracted over the past several days by the Snowpocalypse (with more snow falling now), but I wanted to offer you a very sincere thank you both for your vision and for your hard work in assembling a team of incredible change agents to make this series truly extraordinary. I absolutely appreciated their responsiveness and engagement with the community following their posts – I know it takes a LOT of time and effort to respond to each comment and most of them did just that.

I’ve also enjoyed getting to know the other people who committed to the journey, as well. I’ve read pretty much every comment, and it has been an eye-opener. So many brave people sharing their stories, such insights, such care and compassion and support – all facilitated by you, Sarah! Well done!

I found value in each and every post by your guest bloggers (and in the comments that followed them). (Side note – I started listing the ones that really resonated with me and, no joke, had a list of about 10 of your guests before deciding that it was just getting a little silly and stopped before I ended up just listing them all. lol) What an inspiring and talented group of people, and I’m so grateful to them for sharing their time and wisdom.

I’m taking a LOT away from this experience, but the lessons that stick out the most are:
-Don’t get distracted by nay-sayers (or, as I like to call them, the stick-in-the-bicycle-spoke folks – lol)
-There is always more to learn
-It’s okay to do what you love and to HAVE FUN (in fact, it’s encouraged!)
-Walk to the beat of your own drum and celebrate what makes you unique
-Sometimes you have to take a risk
-Making mistakes is okay (and sometimes necessary) as long as you take the time to learn from them

I’m sure I’ll think of a zillion more as soon as I post this, of course.

I also really appreciated that so many posts encouraged us to be good to one another and to help each other out whenever we can (online and offline) – not that you really have to say that to this community, I’ve learned. :-) Still, it’s nice to hear and be reminded every once in awhile. As you can probably tell from this comment, the song I liked was “We Were Meant to Live” by Switchfoot. ;-)

Thanks again, Sarah, for a wonderful ride. I’ve met a lot of great folks and I look forward to continuing to learn from them and to be inspired by them (and you) as the journey continues. Yay!

Has it been 30 days? Holy schnikes. How did that happen? The has been an amazing 30 days. I have enjoyed every damn minute of it. Thanks to all of you for sharing your wisdom and insight. I have done more thinking in this 30 days than I did in all of 2005. I'm not kidding. I feel my perspective has shifted. I have at times nodded in agreement, been hit by the bog ol' clue by four, reveled in my own thoughts and those of others, accepted more, embraced more and learned like you have no idea. I cannot even put to words how grateful am I for that.

What's more, I am eternally grateful for having found my tribe. I have people and you all are my people. I will continue to seek you out for inspiration, clarity or a kick in the ass (either receiving or, you know, giving :) ). Cue music: And IIIII-IIIII will always love you-ouuuuu-ouuu. I am no Dolly Parton.

  • Ava Diamond (@feistywoman)

    Wow, what a 30 days it's been!

I'm filled with gratitude for many reasons. Each of the guest posters has contributed to my life in some way. And the tribe of commenters–well, wow!–what an amazing group of people…learning, growing, sharing, building community.
I've listened to new music, thought of things in new ways, and taken new action. It's been really awesome.

And my heart is filled with gratitude for you, Sarah. For taking the risk, for burning the ships, for playing bigger, for sharing your inspiration and your friends, for taking your tribe to the next level, and for all that is yet to come. It's exciting to see you grow, and to have you share your process with us.

Congratulations to you for what you've accomplished, and to each of us, for who we've allowed ourselves to become.

  • sue_anne

For me, this series couldn't have come at a better time. I've mentioned, before on other posts in the series, that the 2nd half of 2009 was one of the worst times professionally for me since I began my career in marketing 15 years ago.

As I continued to read the series (and, I read more than I didn't, even if I didn't post to all the ones I read), I realized that in fact I don't want to be mediocre, but I also need to recognize my own limitations when it comes to risk management and finding what success means to me. There are things that are risky and there are things that are foolish. I can accept some risk, but I can't afford (physically, emotionally or financially) to be foolish.

I don't necessarily want to be the @chrisbrogan or the “rockstar” of the social media world. What I would prefer to be is someone that is recognized for giving 100% of my effort and if I can be the @scottmonty or the @comcastcares of a company and elevate that company, I'd be really happy with that.

  • meganmatthieson

This series has been amazing. I mostly been lurking for the second half of it, taking notes and implementing the action steps. Last week I was a little discouraged thinking I should see more progress and then last night it hit me: it’s only been a month. So I decided to give myself a break and appreciate what I have accomplished. Thanks to this series and the wonderful tribe here, I have a plan where I didn’t have one before and I’ve met some pretty cool people.

Stand outs for me are Carla Young’s post about self sabotage (I keep going back to that in my blog), Allison Nazarian’s post about eating and liking change and Dave Navarro’s post about the painful truth. While all of the posts seemed to come just when they were needed, these three really struck a cord with me. So here I am, on day 30, grateful for the excitement and support and so happy that I participated.

One thing I still don’t understand is why Sarah asked me to participate. She had so many awesome business people and true experts. I felt way out of my league. But you know what? It doesn’t matter that I don’t feel I was worthy, she did and I appreciate the confidence. :)

    Sarah,

Here’s what I love: when we commit ourselves to our passion and let go, the outcome is better beyond our imagination. I enjoyed this last post because you share where the connections happened for you, because you had an intention, and took what action you could, and let the universe bring you what you needed to achieve your goals. You’re doing wonderful work in the world. I am just beginning my journey in the blogging world, and know from your and other participants’ examples here that if I focus on success, I will surely have it.

    Thank you!

Thank you Sarah, this was an awesome experience and I learned so much. Now, it’s time for the doin’ part. I can’t pick one specific post that affected me the most, but the few that talked about stepping out of the comfort zone, jumping, and doing great work really resonated with me. They were all good, though.

Favorite song of the 30 days was Day 6, The Staples, “I’ll Take You There”

There were so many smart people who left comments, but I’d like to thank Molly (mckra1g) not only for her comments but for her “cheerleading” efforts on my behalf.

I will miss the tribe, but I'm sure I'll see you around somewhere.

  • tamimorello

Thanks Sarah! It's incredible how you pulled together such an amazing group, the posters and the participants alike. I know I didn't jump in right away, but I have benefited so much from everyone. I certainly can't single out one post – they were all great and each one triggered different responses, musings, etc. from me. Like others have said, I need to print out the posts and work through them all again.

I love this new community/tribe. This is a whole new concept for me, and based on the way I'm feeling about it, it must be what I've been waiting for! I've been “thinking” about social media a lot lately, but felt stuck about how to get started communicating with people I don't already know. We have lots of snow here, with more on the way, but suddenly something in my head has thawed out and I'm like “aha” – a little crocus has just sprouted.

I've just started on Twitter, so I hope we do come up with a list. I'm “all in.”

  • StephanieCorum

Yup. Me too. Very tough year.

    Sarah my dear… :-)

30 Days ago I told you “I'm HERE” and just being here was changing my game. Well – I'm pleased to say I am still HERE and I am changed – and so is the way I'm playing my game.

That's when you asked me to fill in for Colin on the day when the subject was MONEY.

**Carla's “Sabotage: Who Me?” kept me moving forward in this process and my life more times than I can count.
**Bob Burg's Go-Giver (vs Go-Getter) day was big – both for his post AND for the courage I stepped into to be vulnerable and ask a question that may not have made me “look good”
**The Yoda quote from Shelley Kramer, “Why would you try so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out?”
**Marie's day was HUGE for me too… the day I was tempted to quit (“RETREAT!) and I showed up (YAY!) and the day I started to ask myself serious question about whether I'm really changing my game or just putting a new facade on the same game
** Elizabeth M' post and realizing I no longer have to be ashamed of being afraid
** Allison's post and me stepping into and putting out a dream that is so different from what I “do” now
**Michael's 9 ways post was one I will read again and again

All of which crescendoed for me yesterday… and what was probably the most important post for me when Chris reminded me to choose what will make me fulfilled – even if society sees me as “playing small”.

What a priceless gift this experience has been… and NOT because of the “information” I learned from the experts – but because of the EXPERIENCE I was able to share. At the end of these 30 days, I feel clearer and freer and more engaged in the world (and my life) than I have in a VERY long time.

My fave song was “Tubthumping”. And a song that I've been humming as I typed this is “A Whole New World” from Aladdin. Two lines in particular stick out to describe this experience:

    “A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
    Or where to go
    Or say we're only dreaming…

    A whole new world
(Don't you dare close your eyes)
A hundred thousand things to see
(Hold your breath it gets better)
    I'm like a shooting star
    I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be.”

    Thank you ALL!!!

I'm with you Jen! I don't want it to end either! Are you going to be in the Roundtable as you next step?

  • http://www.accessabundance.com/ Teresa Romain

    AMEN!!!!! :-)

  • http://www.accessabundance.com/ Teresa Romain

Hey Shelly! I sure hope you're feeling better soon! Sounds like you had a bunch of what I call “Flat Forehead Moments!” Me too! And it was great to be connected with you!

  • http://www.accessabundance.com/ Teresa Romain

WOW Colin! GREAT to “meet” you. And you are welcome… but, in truth, I thank you! I know you didn't INTEND to not be online that day, but (as you'll see in my comment) – that day I stepped in for you was not just a “game-changer” – it was a LIFE-changer.

  • http://www.accessabundance.com/ Teresa Romain

“See you” soon on Twitter, Jess… and maybe at the Roundtable? And, of course, back here. I have SO enjoyed connecting with you and learning from you and growing with you!

It's been fun GROWING with you Kristin!

  • http://twitter.com/mickeygomez Mickey Gomez

Sarah, thanks so much for pulling this together!

It's true I've been a little distracted over the past several days by the Snowpocalypse (with more snow falling now), but I wanted to offer you a very sincere thank you both for your vision and for your hard work in assembling a team of incredible change agents to make this series truly extraordinary. I absolutely appreciated their responsiveness and engagement with the community following their posts – I know it takes a LOT of time and effort to respond to each comment and most of them did just that.

I've also enjoyed getting to know the other people who committed to the journey, as well. I've read pretty much every comment, and it has been an eye-opener. So many brave people sharing their stories, such insights, such care and compassion and support – all facilitated by you, Sarah! Well done!

I found value in each and every post by your guest bloggers (and in the comments that followed them). (Side note – I started listing the ones that really resonated with me and, no joke, had a list of about 10 of your guests before deciding that it was just getting a little silly and stopped before I ended up just listing them all. lol) What an inspiring and talented group of people, and I'm so grateful to them for sharing their time and wisdom.

I'm taking a LOT away from this experience, but the lessons that stick out the most are:
-Don't get distracted by nay-sayers (or, as I like to call them, the stick-in-the-bicycle-spoke folks – lol)
-There is always more to learn
-It's okay to do what you love and to HAVE FUN (in fact, it's encouraged!)
-Walk to the beat of your own drum and celebrate what makes you unique
-Sometimes you have to take a risk
-Making mistakes is okay (and sometimes necessary) as long as you take the time to learn from them

I'm sure I'll think of a zillion more as soon as I post this, of course.

I also really appreciated that so many posts encouraged us to be good to one another and to help each other out whenever we can (online and offline) – not that you really have to say that to this community, I've learned. :-) Still, it's nice to hear and be reminded every once in awhile. As you can probably tell from this comment, the song I liked was “We Were Meant to Live” by Switchfoot. ;-)

Thanks again, Sarah, for a wonderful ride. I've met a lot of great folks and I look forward to continuing to learn from them and to be inspired by them (and you) as the journey continues. Yay!

Hey Anj! This has been GREAT!!! I'll see you on Twitter REAL soon! And back here I hope!

(Are you going to be in the Roundtable?)

    Teresa

  • Writergrrl

Agreed – soooo glad to have met you here, Teresa!! And, yes, I'll be listening to the Roundtable.

One thing I've had to recognize this week, in my excitement I have “jumped in” to more things than I can possibly keep up with at once. So I'm pulling back or delaying a few projects, but I'm gonna keep moving forward. See you in Twitterland (or you can still join us now and again for the I Thought It Was Just Me online read-along http://ithoughitwasjustme.pnn.com) !!

  • http://kymleeisawesome.com/ Kymlee

This series has been amazing. I mostly been lurking for the second half of it, taking notes and implementing the action steps. Last week I was a little discouraged thinking I should see more progress and then last night it hit me: it's only been a month. So I decided to give myself a break and appreciate what I have accomplished. Thanks to this series and the wonderful tribe here, I have a plan where I didn't have one before and I've met some pretty cool people.

Stand outs for me are Carla Young's post about self sabotage (I keep going back to that in my blog), Allison Nazarian's post about eating and liking change and Dave Navarro's post about the painful truth. While all of the posts seemed to come just when they were needed, these three really struck a cord with me. So here I am, on day 30, grateful for the excitement and support and so happy that I participated.

One thing I still don't understand is why Sarah asked me to participate. She had so many awesome business people and true experts. I felt way out of my league. But you know what? It doesn't matter that I don't feel I was worthy, she did and I appreciate the confidence. :)

  • http://www.insanelyserene.wordpress.com Linda@InsanelySerene

    Sarah,

Here's what I love: when we commit ourselves to our passion and let go, the outcome is better beyond our imagination. I enjoyed this last post because you share where the connections happened for you, because you had an intention, and took what action you could, and let the universe bring you what you needed to achieve your goals. You're doing wonderful work in the world. I am just beginning my journey in the blogging world, and know from your and other participants' examples here that if I focus on success, I will surely have it.

    Thank you!

    Linda

Thank you Sarah, this was an awesome experience and I learned so much. Now, it's time for the doin' part. I can't pick one specific post that affected me the most, but the few that talked about stepping out of the comfort zone, jumping, and doing great work really resonated with me. They were all good, though.

Favorite song of the 30 days was Day 6, The Staples, “I'll Take You There”

There were so many smart people who left comments, but I'd like to thank Molly (mckra1g) not only for her comments but for her “cheerleading” efforts on my behalf.

In looking over the past 30 days, I can honestly say that my game has certainly changed. Thank you for all of the inspiration, the advice and for having all of those great people share their thoughts and experiences. It has truly been a “game-changin” experience. I was abel to get up and speak at an event without feeling that I would fall on my face! I’m also going after all of those customers that I was afraid to earlier. Loved the songs too and the go get’em spirit!

An exhilarating ride … I’m getting back in line and going on it again. Still so much to learn and do. I have come away with a lot of thoughts and feelings and am shifting, but I’m not quite there. I thoroughly enjoyed what Sarah and her amazing group of guest posters brought to the table. The biggest bonus was watching everyone here grow and shift … you are all “awesometastic”!

LOL – love the visual! Reminded me of going to the Cedar Point amusement park with my boyfriend a couple of years ago. He’s one that puts his arms up in the air and just loves the ride, while I sit there holding on for dear life praying that I’ll live through it! :P Maybe it’s time for me to sit in the front car with my arms in the air! :D

Amen to all that! The IAMNOWHERE response was huge to me. In fact I think it was originally in response to my post at the time. I cried when I saw the words change in front of my eyes. (and baby, I will use it in my talks from now on too!)

I am stepping out in a totally new direction with the Romance Rescue and am in the sick to my stomach stage, but hey – my first preview call is tomorrow. I'll hold more w/ anyone who wants to join me. (Nice affiliate stuff and all)
but mostly I learned that its perfectly fine to be right where we are.

Thank you for all the friendship built on this blog.

  • sarahrobinson

That is SO awesome!! And you know WHY you got so much from 30 Days??? Because you committed to showing up here every single day – and you did. When you step into the unverse like that, AMAZING things happen.

Can't wait to see what else shows up for you!!

  • sarahrobinson

Changing your life or kicking your ass???!!!!

Thank you Mark. Your kind words mean so much. :-)

  • sarahrobinson

Oh Jen….the 30 days is just the beginning!! Don't be sad, this party is just getting started. :-)

And congrats on deciding what you want. That makes ALL the difference!

  • sarahrobinson

I LOVE the Hokey Pokey Bill!! There is no way to do it without feeling and looking silly and collapsing in laughter. That IS what it's all about!

So gald you came along for the ride.

  • sarahrobinson

Jess I see BIG changes in you! In your risk taking, in your willingness to show up. Don't underestimate the power of all that. I can't wait to see how it all unfolds for you!!

  • sarahrobinson

    Awwww…..thank you Michelle. :-)

  • sarahrobinson

Wow Kristin – SUCH good stuff. Super proud of you. And yes, “growth” is an excellent word to choose because it is a continuous journey. A journey you began here and will continue out in the great big world.

    w00t!

  • sarahrobinson

Thank you Colin. For more than I can put into words. :-)

    >”"but, what if I want to be mediocre” … why is that bad?”

Yep. That quiet little lizard brain voice that dulls us to our potential. It's so insidious and comfortable. …I'm so glad I was part of this tribe, so that I have a chorus to help drown out that voice of mediocrity. :)

  • sarahrobinson

w00t Kerri!!! Way to take action! Because the more action you take, the more likely you are to succees. A long time ago, someone taught me that the efforts are up to me; the results are up to God (and I have to let him do his job!).

    Super proud of you!

  • sarahrobinson

I am glad I can be an endless source of amusement for everyone. :-)

You've done some pretty awesome things Shelly. And OF COURSE it feels scary and you are choosing to NOT let it paralyze you. Just that is a pretty big game-changer if you ask me.

  • sarahrobinson

You are kind to give me so much credit Danielle, but without a Willing Tribe, all of the posters and I would have been hearing crickets. :-)

And congrats on being in learning mode. That's a pretty big deal for an INFJ!

  • sarahrobinson

When we meet in person, I will insist that you sing that. :-)

And I am so thrilled that you have stretched yourself so much. Mostly I am glad you found your tribe. It simply wouldn't be the same without you. :-)

  • http://themarketingmark.blogspot.com MarkSherrick

You've done both, Sarah. You've kicked me in the ass a couple times when I needed it, and you've helped me out quite a bit. I doubt my online presence would be where it is today without you.

  • Kristin

And I certainly hope that we will continue growing, Teresa!

  • Kristin

Sarah, I can't thank you enough for your inspiration and support. Look forward to listening in on the roundtable :-)

Thank you so much for this awesome opportunity! I came across you on Twitter somehow and I know it was a blessing. I have learned so much about myself and that it’s ok to jump in and pursue things even if I’m not to sure about it ~ learn and get support on the way.
Every single day has been amazing!
I’m just sticking my toes in the water of social media, but I think I’m ready to take the plunge.
Each post was wonderful and thought provoking, but I think my favorite thing about this was the tribe, their comments and support.
This has been a fantastic 30 days presented by a fantabulous person that has a plethora of out of the box writers and caring and supportive followers.
I have been so awesomized to have been able to participate in this astounding opportunity
Would love to follow fellow tribe members on Twitter ~ I’m @suessweettweets
Thank you everyone for sharing, supporting, contributing, and giving, but a BIG thank you to you Sarah for creating this and making me see that ‘changing my game’ is achievable.

When I made a concious decision to begin my SHIFT and send the ships away with no way to retreat on March 5 I had no idea that I within less than 30 days I have amidst one of my greatest internal tug of war sessions, come to a place of peace, a place of knowing that I’m right where I’m suppose to be. The waves of emotions will come and go but this “knowing” remains to be my anchor as I forge ahead into new territory. I’m cautious and excited all at the same time when I consider the possibilities….thanks for sharing your light in a way that inspires others.
