Now It's Your Turn…

I spend a lot of time thinking about you. Seriously. I re-read the smart, funny, brilliant and vulnerable comments you’ve written in response to my posts and am simply blown away by how willing you are to share so much of yourself here. Truly amazing.

Today, my part of the post is going to be very short. The real meat will be in your responses (well, that is where the real meat ALWAYS is, isn’t it?!).give

You are invited to share a link to your very favorite Escaping Mediocrity resource. This could be a blog post you’ve written, or a vlog post you’ve made, or it may be a link to something someone else has put together that truly inspires you on your journey of a lifetime. It can be about business, life or anything else.

To make it meaningful and helpful to everyone, there are just one simple boundary that I’d like to ask you to observe:

No overt selling or blatant self-promotion. I’m going to check every link that is posted and I will waste no time in hitting the delete button. :-)

That’s it!

As always, I can’t wait to learn from you. :-)

For me, it's the ladies over at Looking Glass Lane, no question (http://lookingglasslane.com/wordpress/). They inspire great, thought-provoking conversation that keeps me from ever wanting to settle in any area of my life. I think they certainly embody the spirit of “escaping mediocrity!”

Mediocrity be darned!Within inches of me is a copy of the first check I received as a business guy. It wasn't the largest check, and the business isn't even doing anything now – but that's beside the point. I built something, and can build again. It – along with 4 others in my house – keeps me from mediocrity.Cheers,Dave

I've decided that I will share some of my favorites along the way – just cuz I can't keep my big trap shut! The first Escaping Mediocrity resource I want to share is the one this COMPLETELY responsible for the creative U-turn I made on this blog back in May.The one and only Chris Guillebeau and his blog The Art of Nonconformity: http://www.chrisguillebeau.com/

After working 7 day weeks, long hours all day since Nov '08, whenever I really need a break it usually involves unplugging. But if I'm online, I really enjoy “people”…real honest to goodness people who make me laugh and thinkand wanna have some fun! I really dig http://www.twitter.com/Lynnster23 because she's such a well rounded human. And this http://www.twitter.com/mfeige because he can make me smile regardless of whatever's going on at the time.A couple of real generous, caring, smart&kooky;, fun loving people. People help me unwind.I know this isn't a Follow Friday blog, but I really do enjoy the above link. And for some reason it's the first thing thatpopped into my head so I've decided to roll with it! As for blogs, there are many I enjoy, including YOURS!, howeverI only get a few hours a week to catch up on so many of them, so many good ones and even less time to comment. I try though. Thanks for the great read and keep it comin…

You know me well enough by now to know that there aren’t any real “rules” here (well, except for the blatent self-promotion one!). And I love that you shared the resources that make you feel lighter amidst the hustle and tustle. We all need that. And, as busy as I know you are, I am honored that you connect here from time to time. The Tribe is richer for it. :-)

I’m going to jump on your bandwagon. I was going to link to chris, and not just because of our work together. What he’s doing and how he gently pushes to think of the world differently than we have is a huge part of why I find it very fulfilling to work with him. His articles have made me ask ‘why’ time and time agon, and ‘how does this add meaning to my life?’

I have two things to leave.1) A blog post I wrote about finally having the courage to pursue photography and give up the 9-5 job expectation I always had for myself. http://www.alexbeadonphotography.com/?p=142) A quote that changed the way I look at life:”Mediocrity is much scarier than failure”Can't wait to come back and see what everyone else has written :)

Two things: A painting of Song of the Lark above me desk, that I would link to, but everyone has their own muse. She is mine. And chats with people in the trenches with me, who are determined to play hard. Like you, Sarah. Or the LookingGlass girls. Really. A quick phone call or chat or “get your arse moving” DM does it for me. Mostly because it reminds me that you all are going someplace, and I want to go there with you. Love ya, girl,J

My Maverickness has been simmering along for a while now. Incrementally making adjustments and experimenting. I would say the inpiration that really got me jumping to bust the mediocrity chains was Jonathan Fields at CareerRenegade.com or jonathanfields.com. He provides great information and really makes you think. He has a very non-mediocre life and is probably one of the nicest/down to earth person. I have to give a hat tip to Chris Guillebeau as well.

You know I love The Lark as well – for many reasons. And I think that sometimes our very best “escaping mediocrity” resource is our tribe – those who dm, im, skype or email just to checkin, give support or the necessary kick in the pants. Glad I can count you among those who do that for me. :-)

You know I love The Lark as well – for many reasons. And I think that sometimes our very best “escaping mediocrity” resource is our tribe – those who dm, im, skype or email just to checkin, give support or the necessary kick in the pants. Glad I can count you among those who do that for me. :-)

I love http://www.CareerRenegade.com and Jonathan Fields too. In fact, in just a sec I am going to weigh in with a link to his latest and greatest. :-)

    Two things:
A painting of Song of the Lark above me desk, that I would link to, but everyone has their own muse.

    Love ya, girl,
    J

My Maverickness has been simmering along for a while now. Incrementally making adjustments and experimenting. I would say the inpiration that really got me jumping to bust the mediocrity chains was Jonathan Fields at CareerRenegade.com or jonathanfields.com. He provides great information and really makes you think. He has a very non-mediocre life and is probably one of the nicest/down to earth person. I have to give a hat tip to Chris Guillebeau as well.

Pimp my blog, well Thank-you Sarah. Cute catchy title. I would love more traffic to my blog, and I would love feedback from blog pros on what I need to do better to help push the blog. So, if anyone would care to help me with critiquing skincare-inthecity.com I would be grateful.

Hi Sarah, Such a fantastic idea! I consider myself the comment fairy, always going around leaving comments for folks. This makes you the blog fairy. Generous and kind to help lift others up …

Perhaps my Five Ways to Overcome Your Fears “musepiration” will help folks escape mediocrity; after all isn’t it fear that keeps anyone from living his or her greatest life?

“Pimp my blog”? What were you thinking? I find it offensive and would never use that term in any type of internet marketing. Just because it’s a popular slang term (and yes I know about the reality show that uses the term) does NOT mean it’s appropriate for this venue. I think if you want any credibility with moms, you may want to omit that word entirely. Just my opinion.
