Even on days when I can barely get a moment in I try to get a little "siesta" in. Good advice. Now if we could just get more people to try it!

I'm with you, naps are a critical self care strategy!

Besides, the invention of the 9-5 work day created an artificial block to being able to work with our natural flow of energy, including taking time to restore ourselves along the way. Crazy that we have to feel embarrassed or apologetic about something that is natural, normal and often necessary to our well being.

Happy 2010 Sarah!

Loved the post and I love my naps. I know many of my clients work in professions that do not allow them to take naps aka teachers in a classroom full of grade 3's. When the teacher knows they need a rest, I suggest they change where they are looking in the room, focus their attention to the middle of their chest and notice the sensation of their breath going in and out of their lungs. When appropriate they will sometimes talk the kids through the breathing exercise in unison, breathing in for 5 and out for 5. This can take the place of a nap if it is not feasible at any given moment - A change is as good as a rest.

Happy New Year

Hi Sarah - great thought. Naps are essential as are all the other strategies that help us take care of ourselves. There is no need to feel guilty about any of this, so thank you for articulating that message.

Well, I can't fault you for posting about what a lot of us out here are thinking today. It's the first day back in the office after numerous days off for Christmas vacation. The ringing phone, the ding of new emails, and this tie is driving me crazy.

A nap would be SO good right now.
